I'm stumped by what may seem to be a relatively simple question so hopefully one of the experts here can help me. I downloaded several presets for the Canon 3'D from http://inside-lightroom.com.

I always install presets manually by making sub-folders in the C:\Documents and Settings\[User Name]\Application Data\Adobe\Lightroom folder. While it is obvious to me that the White Balance presets should be installed in the Develop Presets folder, I'm stumped by the camera Calibration presets. Are they also installed in the Develop Presets folder, or are they installed elsewhere?

One of the reason I'm asking this question is to understand how calibration presets work. I assume that after installation, the calibration preset would automatically become the default settings in Lightroom. But if they still have to be applied, either during file import or during later post-processing, then they aren't the default. Is this correct? Would it mean that I still have to make adjustments to the Camera Calibration tab?

Thanks in advance for any advice and guidance provided.

James, I think you would install the camera cal's as if they were Develop presets.

Select a test image, apply the LightRoom Develop Preset, "General - Zeroed"
Then apply your selected calibration preset from the User Preset list.
Then hold down Alt/Option. The Develop Reset button at the lower right of the Develop panel will change to Set Default.... click it, and you will see a dialog letting you save the current settings, which at this point should be only the calibration settings you applied, as the default.

Is this what you were asking, or did I miss something ...... ?

Brad,

Thanks for your prompt response....that's exactly what I was looking for. I did not know you could hold down the ALT key to access the "Set Default" function. I guess I've never fully explored the Camera Calibration tab. I was concerned that I would have to apply the Calibration preset on every import, which would defeat the purpose of using it in the first place, but your solution makes that step unnecessary.

Thanks again.

And just in case anyone following this thread is wondering, the otherwise wonderful Lightroom User Guide is rather sketchy on the details. Page 8' says:

Save default settings for cameras

You can save new camera raw defaults for each cameramodel. Change preference options to determine whether the camera serial number and ISO settings are included in the defaults.

1. Open Presets preferences, and then select whether you want the camera serial number and the camera ISO setting to be included in the defaults.
2. In Develop module, select a raw file, change settings, and choose Develop > Set Default Settings.
3. Choose Update To Current Settings.

In Presets preferences, you can choose Reset All Default Develop Settings to revert to the original settings.
