In lightroom mobile once I choose to download a full resolution image from the cloud is there any way to go back to using smart preview, there doesn't seem to be a way once you have downloaded t raw???

Assuming you have enabled the option in the app Settings to "Only download smart previews", then once you have finished with a downloaded original you can use the "Clear Cache" command (on the Settings>Local Storage tab) which should remove any originals which are no longer needed locally.

I tried it but the files still remained as originals...found I had to go into android settings and delete the cache from there, and that worked..thanks for your help:)

It's possible that the "Clear Cache" has some algorithms in there which dictate how soon after use the original can be cleared, i.e. if it was fairly recently downloaded the design may ensure that it's not cleared until xx days have passed without subsequent re-use. Just speculation on my part.
