I have 5 folders of historical family photos with a varying number of photos in each. I invested a lot of time learning and choosing specific colors, options, sizes, formatting, etc, for my first book/folder. I want to "clone" ALL the attributes from my first book to subsequent books. How do I do that?

How about right-clicking on the saved book in the Collections panel and duplicating it multiple times? Then you could just swap out the pictures in each "template" book.

Haven't tried it yet but I'm impressed with your creative thinking. Thank you very much!
Just tried it. I haven't worked with LRC in quite a while. I imagine my question is very basic. How do I copy the photos from this folder to my duplicated book collection? Do I need to do this indirectly via a different route?

Manage the photos from the Library module's Grid view. You should be able to drag from the grid onto the book collection in the Collections panel, and if you select the duplicate book in the Collections panel, you can also remove the "wrong" photos that way too.
