How to read newer raw files using lightroom 5.x?

I am running lightroom 5.3. I bought a point and shoot camera (panasonic gx85) and lightroom is not able to read the raw files. Is there a way to update my current version of lightroom to read these raw files? I am aware of the adobe dng convertor, but am hoping to keep the workflow simple if possible.

p.s. I don't have the budget to upgrade lightroom at the moment.

Panasonic gx85 raw files were not supported until the release of Lightroom 6.6.

In view of your budgetary issues your only alternative is to use Adobe's DNG converter.

As Tony described you can make DNG's from your Panasonic RAW files with the free Adobe DNG converter. These files can be managed by your version of Lightroom.
