When I browse through my photos in collections, I want to be able to mark them as rejected and delete them from disk (I think the same problem applies to keywords, but not sure). I can only remove them from the collections while in 'collection mode', when I look up the rejected photos in 'folder mode' they cannot be found anymore. The way I do it now is marking the rejects with a color, and then deleting them in 'folder mode', but there must (or should) be a quicker way.

Is there any quick way to delete them from disk, while browsing through collections?

There is a Four Key Combo Shortcut for this:

On a Mac it is: Shift-Option-Command-Delete.

I am not sure, but on a PC it may be Shift-Alt-Control-Delete or Backspace.

This will bring up the remove or Trash Dialog just like in Folders and say 'This Operation is NOt Undoable.'

Thanks for your reply. I checked both the shortcuts you mentioned. Both have the same result, which is that it will delete selected photos. What I was looking for is a shortcut to delete rejected photos, I normally do this with Ctrl+Backspace in folder view.

Ah sorry. Missed that. But then, if you want to stay in Collection to do this, filter for rejects, Cmd/Ctl-A to select then do the four key combo. Then unset the Filter. Flags are local so wont be seen the same in a Folder or All Photos view.

Alt/Option delete is instant and undoable
While in a collection, this removes the image from the catalog, but not from the disk. And it's undoble for me as well.

Don, thanks for the key combo. It's a little frustrating that "Delete Rejected Photos" behaves differently within folder view vs collections. I've also noticed items marked for rejection from within collections are not marked when you go to folder view/all photos view.

My work around had just been to mark photos as red and filter that later to delete them.

This is by design. Colors/Labels and Ratings are global, Pick flags are local to collection/folder. You can have different ratings for the same photo in different collections.

For example, it's a pick in the Bride's Family, and a reject in Groom's.

This has caused a lot of confusion, and like many things in life (and software design) there are strong opinions each way.

I believe that flags are not global, but rather local to the collection. Personally, I like having some tools that work locally, and others that work globally. It would be great if we could decide which acted at the desired level, but that would mean more preferences to set up, thus making the program a bit more cumbersome.

Here is how I did a similar task: first I used the spray tool to add a keyword "x" to all photos I wanted to delete (worked in collections). then I clicced in the folder view the top row (to make sure I am working in the topmost folder that contains all the photos). Now I opened the find tool and searhed all those with keyword "x". Then just choose them and delete.

Good to know it's by design then, and I'm not crazy, heh. Not to say I like it, but I will just use the colors then. Now I just need to figure out my auto-complete comma issue.

Personally, I just gnash my teeth, and say to myself "One of these days, the LR team will straighten this out as well."
