How do you set LR 2.4 to run in 64 bit mode?

How do you set LR 2.4 to run in 64 bit mode?

It runs in 64bit mode by default if your hardware can run 64bit apps.

go to the LR app in Applications, and right click on it, then select Get Info. There is a check box to force it to use 32bit. See attached picture, it's under the cloured labels on the left.

Default 64Bit... Nope

Thanks for the tip. I did a Get Info on the LR I had just installed in 64 bit Snow Leopard and it had run in 32 bit mode checked. I unchecked it.

I'm not 1''% sure what makes LR default to 64 bit, it does seem a bit random. I'm upgrading my macbook pro to snow leopard as I write this. I'll do my iMac in a few days if everything seems ok. So far the upgrade has been very painless!

It *should*, I believe, default to 64 bit, unless your computer can only run as 32-bit (no checkbox) or you had a previous LR version that was running in 32 bit.

Dear Victoria,

This was a first time LR install on a clean first-time install of Snow Leopard on a clean HD. Snow Leopard is without a doubt a 64 Bit program... there were no previous pref files from any prior installs and yet LR installed with 32 bit as default.. The computer is a MacPro 2X dual core 2.66 Intel Xeon processors whith up-to-date firmeware which I believe is 64Bit... may be a bug.

I also noticed that on option-key boot to select the boot drive Snow Leopard drives do not display the drive name... but are listed as EFI Boot Disk. This is the way it should be according to Apple support... after much research on their part. All 64 bit OS boot drives will display ths way.

Ah, it might also be because SL isn't officially supported yet too.

Here is something from the Adobe LR forum:

That's normal. The installer is just not smart enough to notice that it should enable the 64-bit binary by default as it doesn't know about Snow Leopard. On Leopard, you get the same boost in speed by enabling the 64-bit mode (I've been running Lightroom in 64-bit mode for ages on Mac OS X), but there were problems with the printing subsystem, so Adobe probably decided it was better to keep the default at 32-bit there. We discussed this quite a bit recently.

P.S. There is [color=#''68cf]http://macperformanceguide.com/SnowLeopard-Performance.html[/color] with LR running in 64 bit mode both in Leopard and Snow Leopard. There is a small extra increase if you're able to run Snow Leopard's kernel in 64-bit mode too but that might not be that significant.

I Have just done a clean install of Snow Leopard and LR 2.4 and can confirm that the default setting is 32bit. I do get a checkbox though that allows me to run 64bit.
