How do I upgrade my 1.3.1 catalog to 2.0?

Anyone figure out how to convert a 1.x catalog over to 2.'? I get the following error when trying:

The Lightroom catalog named &#822';Lightroom Catalog” cannot be opened because it must be upgraded and the public beta of Lightroom 2.' does not currently support upgrading catalogs from earlier versions.

This is not possible at the moment, they will be upgradable when 2.' is released. Read the re release notes, the beta is for test purposes only, not for production use.

Exactly what it says on the tin.... the beta doesn't upgrade 1.x catalogs. The final version will.

Apart from anything else, they're trying to discourage people from using the on critical data and catalogs and then complaining that it messed it up!

If you want to transfer settings for your images, xmp does work.

Sweet. Thanks. I was thinking it could work off of a backup catalog.

Joshua, One workaround, to be used strictly as a backup catalog, is to either save your settings out to XMP or convert your files to DNG, then import them into the LR2beta, preferably using the "Copy files to a new location and import" option. Then, you should have the bulk, if not all, of your adjustments intact. But again, make it a backup of the catalog. Don't employ the beta on your "good" catalog.

The internal structure of the catalog (an SQLite3 database) has changed significantly in LR 2, and probably will change some more during development. If Adobe were to create a conversion feature, that would not only take time away from other more pressing tasks, but it would also probably require multiple conversions, as there will be multiple versions of LR 2 catalogs out there, some potentially too buggy to convert. Makes sense to do the job only once. (Also, as Victoria noted, a conversion would encourage people to use LR2 for production work.)
