Hiya All

OK, using SMF how do I do a search for all new post/threads made since I last visited...? This is how I browse all other forums, but can't see a similar link on here. Is this possible...?

Ta

John

At the top of the page, just under the Lightroom Forums header, there is a link for Show unread posts.

I certainly can't get this to work. I was absent, travelling for a while, and since I got back I cannot figure out how to see new posts.

When I open the web page it says "Guest". I log in, then click the Show Unread posts and it shows nothing, as though they are all read. I've done this numerous times without it ever once working.

Am I missing something?

Linwood, welcome back, from wherever. Hmm, I actually had the opposite problem. All 45k plus posts on the board came up as new/unread. So I had pick and choose the few actual new posts, and then mark everything as read.

There was a commissioning bug, where if you logged on, then closed the browser and came back, the unread list was cleared. I'm not sure whether the messages still showed as 'new' in the thread views. I think that's been fixed, but ......

What happens if you look at the forum index? Forums with new messages should show a dark SMF logo, and light gray if not. What shows in the Recent Posts list at the bottom of that page?

Then, when choosing a forum/board, new topics, or topics with new posts, should display a little 'new' icon. (In your case, I'd expect all threads/posts to show 'new'.

What are you seeing there?

Hmm.. WHen I got the e-mail, I clicked on it. Went to this topic. From there I hit the "show unread" and it seemed to work (at least it showed two topics, seemed about right). But it said I had been logged on 18 minutes, when I had not done anything since 5:25 +/- when I posted that topic until now. Not sure what that means.

if I look at the index, the logos are dark/light as indicated, and if I go into a forum the posting user/time is bold or not as indicator. So i can go forum by forum, but it was nice before to just see in one long page all the unreads.

Which maybe it did by going directly to a thread as opposed to the home page and logging in.

I will experiment some more.

OK, I must tbe doing something incorrectly, see if these steps give a clue...

I logged out last night, just to make sure.

This morning I did not use the link in the e-mail, I explicitly went to www.lightroomqueen.com/community.

The screen that opens shows "Welcome guest" and all the little icons are grey indicating nothing new, consistent with being guest I presume.

I logged in. Yes, the login time is apparently cumulative.

Now the icons to the left show grey and dark consistent with the times of the last post.

But when I click "Show unread posts" I get "Pages [1]" and "No messages".

I then hit "home" -- I see the grey/dark icons still as expected on the forum indexes.

I clicked on the icon to the left of "Lightroom General" which was dark -- mack to the "no unread topics found since your last visit, click here to try all unread topics". I clicked "here" and got "no messages".

Back to home. Lightroom general still shows dark icon. I click the forum name to get them all.

Now (ignoring the pinned one) the top 6 topics show bold date/times on the right, indicating presumably unread by me. Though one of them shows "Yesterday at 1':16:1' am" which is way before I last logged in.

And every topic on the first screen shows a "new" icon.

Was there something I was supposed to do to get all this started, to set some defaults for unread or something?

Just to see if it helps, I am right now doing a "mark all messages read" and logging out, and will check back later today and see if maybe that primed the process or something.

If that doesn't do the trick Linwood, can you let us know which browser and OS please?

Delete all cookies related to lightroomqueen.com/community, including any derivatives. Then try again.

I did something stupid -- I deleted all cookies (and associated) BEFORE I tested to see if mark-all-read had an impact.

This time it worked fine. I have no idea which thing fixed it. Will report back if it breaks again.

FWIW running Vista 32, IE 8.', everything vanilla (no toolbars, etc.).
