How do I move my catalog preview folder to another drive?

Hi everyone, it looks like my lrcat file is getting a bit big for my C drive. It's not the largest by any means. But I'd like to move the lrcat file to my D drive with the rest of my pictures which has plenty of space.

I haven't seen any straight forward way to do this in the setting menus. Can somebody provide some insight into this process?

actually.. it's my lrdata that's getting really big. but ideally, i'd like to move both the lrcat & the lrdata off to my D drive.

The .lrdata is the previews and size will be related to preview size and quality.
Just shift the LR files to the new drive and double click the .lrcat file to open it and you will be fine. If your shifting the image files see the posts on how to do that but it is easiest from within LR. I found on the Mac all I have to do is put a file in the top level of the new drive and then just drag the file to the library and import on request and the new drive is loaded. Then just drag the folders you want on the new drive into it in the library and LR moves them.

i don't need to move my actual images. i have those in the right spot and i'm aware of how to move those within lightroom. i need to move the previews. i'm a bit confused on what you meant. do you mean i can just move all the folders to my new drive and then go into lightroom and do file->open catalog to access the new location?

Yep, just move the .lrcat and .lrdata files to where you want and double click the .lrcat file and LR will open with that catalog and then know it's location.

nice everyone... thanks for the replies. i simply copied everything (lrcat and lrdata folders) from the C drive over to my D drive. re-opened lightroom, it prompted me for the catalog and i just pointed over to the D drive.

Sean,

Using the symbolic link, if you want to go back to the original, do you just delet the symbolic link file and copy your original back?
