How do I change the primary external editor?

Hi there,
Been using the LR3 beta for a while now and very happy with it, will purchase when the time comes however, there is one thing that is doing my head in.

I have elements 4 and 8 (mac osx) on my system. LR defaults to 4 as the primary "edit in external editor" how do I change this to be the latest elements 8?

I also have NIK dnoise 2 trial installed and I want that as the secondary editor. At the moment every time I want to switch editing between elements 8 and nik denoise I have to go into preferences and change the secondary as elements 4 is hogging the primary spot. AArrggggh!

Bamboo, if you need both elements versions, you may have to live with that. One workaround provided by Adobe, is the ability to create additional secondary editor 'presets'. While only one of the secondary editors seems to be selected in the preset preference panel, they will all show up together in the 'Edit In...' context menus, making access easier.

Play around with that Preset dropdown at the top of the Additional Editors pane in the Edit > Preferences > External Editing tab


Secondary to that, perhaps there's the equivalent of a registry hack on Mac, or perhaps Elements installation order is important in determining which version Lr finds. (It's registry dependent in Windows; on Mac, I dunno)

While you're in your happy place, take a second, and tweak your user profile to show your system details, it'll help everybody going forward. Oh, and BTW, welcome to the forums.....

Yes I was playing around with those secondary preset settings in the preference panel last night but for some reason (user error) it wasn't saving correctly and I had 2 differently named entries pointing to the same app. Had another go this morning and it worked fine Now I have PSE4 at top then an option to edit in PSE8 and Dfine2 when I right click "edit in".
Why it chooses PSE4 over PSE8 I don't know but at least they're both in there now. I may even delete PSE4 from my system soon as I don't really need or use it now.
