Yes, I know I can use the trick by filtering those "doesn't contain" a, e, i, o, u, but this doesn't work for some languages, i.e, Chinese.

Is there real way to set filter rules by setting "text is empty" or "text length ='"?

Instead of filtering, try creating a Smart Collection. Many of the 'filter' fields there offer an 'is empty' option. Note that there have been many complaints about 'bugginess' in some of these logical selects. I don't recall the exact details, but I believe most complaints are centered on "doesn't contain". If John Beardsworth is listening, I believe he's been in the forefront of that battle.

I've come up with the same need. Searching elsewhere, I discovered that in LR 1.1 the 'Is Empty' option was available in the filter for Title, just as it is in 2.3 for Caption. Does anyone know why this useful option was removed?

Because it didn't actually work (can't recall exactly how not). Believe me, I'm continually banging on about the need for Is Empty for this title field.

Thanks John. I got round it this time by using the 'Doesn't contain' a e i o u ' - I have many images where the Title = file name, and the file name is in the form 1'12345, so the ' catches these.
