Highlight clipping when exporting in sRGB?

I wondering if there is anything I can do about about what I think is highlight clipping when I export jpgs in sRGB. I'm shooting in sRGB ->importing in to PhotoMechanic for browsing and initial captioning ->then importing to LR2.5 to edit and make image corrections ->then I export back to PhotoMechanic in sRGB to use the FTP upload feature. If I then open up the images in PS CS4 from PhotoMechanic the highlights always need to be bumped up. I would rather not have to finish off the images in PS, seems like a waste of time. My PS CS4 is set to sRGB color space. I don't know why the export images from LR look dark when I open in CS4. They look fine within LR but then when opened in CS4 they all need to be bumped up. Is there reason why this happening?
Does anyone know of any solutions to this problem? thanks in advance.

Hi agofoto, welcome to the forum!

Ok, few extra bits of information would be useful - primarily how are you calibrating your monitor? And if you open a file into CS4 with it set to ProPhotoRGB, do you get the same problem? And while we're here, what monitor?

Thank so much for your quick response. I'm using a new 15" MacBookPro laptop. I calibrated the monitor with the Huey Pro calibration system. I have not tried setting CS4 to ProPhotoRGB yet. Should LR sRGB export be the same as CS4 sRGB? My LR converted sRGB's look a little dull (less contrasty) when opened up in CS4.

Hi agofoto, sorry, bit behind with posts.

Try just setting PS to ProPhotoRGB and exporting a ProPhotoRGB photo.

And then try opening the same original jpeg in both programs and seeing if they match too.

Initial thoughts....
1. You're seeing the result of the smaller sRGB gamut
2. You monitor profile is corrupted
3. Your monitor profile is an ICC4 profile which LR doesn't do well with. Might be that one actually.

Thanks I'll try the ProPhotoRGB idea....How can I tell if my monitor profile is and ICC4 profile? and can I do anything about it with Huey Pro calibration?

You could have a look round the Huey software are see if there's a checkbox anywhere.

Just try it with sRGB as a temporary measure, to see if the profile's definitely the problem. If it is, we can figure out where to go from there.
