Hi,
Nice to be on this forum. I am 5' years old. I've been into photography for many years now, first black and white - used to develop in my own darkroom. I switched to digital in 2''1, first with a Canon compact, and in 2''4 I took it up more seriously with Nikon gear - first a D7', now a D2'' as my main camera.
I had used Photoshop and Nikon's Capture before I came across Lightroom.
I'm not a pro but on occasions I shoot hundreds and hundreds of photos, always raw, and it has taken me ages to process these in Photoshop - let alone in Capture - a mind hog. I'm by no means a Photoshop expert and I have always regretted the fact that I was knowledgeable about only a fragment of Ps. That and the time it takes to individually process - open, edit, save - every frame has made me look for a different workflow. I tried the "poor man's LR" Paint Shop Pro X - but didn't like it. Not intuitive enough, not enough flexibility.
LR made a world of difference. It's wonderful - I can now process hundreds of pics in one evening. I started with version 1 and have recently upgraded to 2 and now 2.3. Unfortunately I find that it gets slow in Develop mode and especially with the Graduated Filter - it's like the Nikon Capture days again - can be frustrating at times. So I went looking for answers and found some very helpful suggestions on this forum. It hasn't solved everything - but I guess a little patience goes a long way...
It's sort of ironic that I should go from a darkroom (which took a lot of time and yielded very little production) to a lightroom.
Thanks for all the tips so far, and I hope I may be able to provide some useful input myself in the future.
