help!

Today a plug was pulled on my Mac and it turned off whilst I was downloading images direct from my camera to Lightroom.

The programme will now not open and says its corrupted and cant open, I have even downloaded a trial version of LR2 but that says the same thing.

"The last time Lightroom ran, it shut down prematurely due to a problem reading the catalog. Lightroom must now check the catalog before proceeding"

It says the catalogue needs repairing but when I try it says it cant be repaired at this time.

Any advice? I love this programme and use it for all my sorting of images so would be quite lost without it!.

storrs, welcome to the forum, sorry it's problems that bring you here.

I'm afraid you may be in trouble if you don't have backups of your catalog database file.
Usually, Lightroom will ask you if you want to backup, on a optional schedule you set up.
Or, you may have set up a more sophisticated backup system on your own.

Use Mac's finder to search for files of type *.lrcat (that's a lower case L). If you find some that you believe to be backups, simply double click on the most recent to open in Lr.

Let us know what you find, and we can direct you from there.

The default location for LR catalogs on a Mac is in a Lightroom folder in "Pictures".
With LR closed check in the catalog folder and see if there is a "catalog.lrcat.lock" file in there, if there is delete that file. If there is also a "catalog.lrcat-journal" file DO NOT delete that file!!
Then try opening the catalog again by double clicking the .lrcat file.
