Hi,

I had a trial version of Lightroom on my old computer. I bought a new computer and I bought Lightroom (in a box not online) now I go to install it on new computer- fine- then it tells me there's an update- fine I download that....well it accepted the serial number but then won't open.
So i delete it- start again with 1.1 version from the disc- now it tells me I have a newer version of Lightroom on my computer- however I can not find it anywhere so now i cant do a thing....HELP......

I am on a mac by the way.

TIA:shock:

Oh dear Bluemist! Well welcome to the forum!

Ok, go here: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=3891

That's the latest update - so install that, whether you've got other versions installed or not. Hopefully that'll install ok - if not, we'll send you off in hunt of the package file so that it'll install.

Then if it still won't open, try holding down Opt while starting and start a new catalog. It won't overwrite your existing catalog, so we can always retrieve that later.

Victoria- thanks I don't think I explained myself properly.

Here's what I did originally.

Installed Lightroom on new computer (all clean) - it was successful- launched- then it told me there was an update- did I want to download- yes please.
So I do that- then it would not open....would just take me to insert the serial number- so I inserted the serial number that came with my box- it gets accepted then Lightroom closes-can't not open it- just keeps going back to the dialogue box (have serial number) but never opens the application.

Ok so here is what I have done since your post...
Took everything off- tried to reinstall Version 1.1. - no it won't let me I get a dialogue box saying a newer version is on my machine. (its not I've removed every trace of it)

IT WILL NOT INSTALL FROM MY PACKAGE FILE :((

Then I tried redownloading the 1.1.4 from Adobe as per above- but the same thing happens!

I don't know what else to do apart from write to Adobe!

Reinstall on the old comp???

Move it across?
I don't think anything will work. Very frustrated only opened the box today :(

Ok, let's do one at a time then. It won't reinstall because it's left a package file on there - delete that, and you can reinstall the earlier version.

I uninstalled the program, but now I want to reinstall and it won’t let me as
it says &#822';A newer version already exists”. How do I uninstall cleanly to be
able to reinstall?
On a Mac, the key to being able to reinstall is usually to simply delete the receipt
package from [systemdrive]/Library/Receipts/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop Lightroom
2.pkg
On Windows, a full uninstall should allow you to reinstall without issue.
If you continue to have problems, there is an official TechNote at: http://www.adobe.com/go/kb4'1119

When it accepts the serial number, it has a little green tick at the end? If so, the serial number's ok. You could try removing the registration file at /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom/Lightroom 1.' Registration

The other thing I'd try is moving the catalog from its default position at MacHD/Users/[username]/Pictures/Lightroom/Lightroom Catalog.lrcat to somewhere safe - it may be that it's closing down because it can't open that catalog.

Ok ok you won't believe this.yes I had removed all the package files...but the next day I opened LR up and it didn't ask me for a serial number- loaded- downloaded the 1.1.4 and all is good in my world :)
Except now there's a new version of Lightroom out- grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
LOL

LOL Well it's good that you got it working anyway!
