Help with Canon Printer needed

Good morning everyone,
I am new here and this is my first post, so I will try to detail everything correctly.
Like the other posts here I have dark and not accurate prints, I have read through the posts to try and resolve my issue.
However none of the explanations quite fit with what I am seeing, this could be due to the fact that I have a poor underpinning knowledge!!
I am using a canon 66'''D printer and have light room set to the Canon 66'''D printer profile that is available from the drop down box.
In the printer it is set to glossy paper, high standard, manual colour, enable ICM.
Is there something I am still missing, sorry if it is something a bit basic as I said this is all a bit new to me.

While I am not familiar with the Canon 66''' printer per se, I can only guess that the setup screens for it are very similar to the other Canon photo printers. If so, make sure that the "preview before printing" box is NOT checked. This box appears on the opening screen after you have selected the properties function. You can invoke the preferences screen in any one of several ways but the easiest way to do it directly from within Lightroom.
While in the Lightroom Print module click the 'page setup' button and from the popup screen select your printer and then properties. Check to see that the box for preview before printing in not selected. I don't know why this should affect the print color but it does.

These settings have got me closer but still no where near where it should be

If I print form Vista it is all much closer to what is on the screen.

So I have set the following:

In the printer under Properties > Main>Manual>set>un tick ICM>OK>click auto
Then Properties>Colour Management>All profiles
I had the following options available:
SP3 CNB7DECA.ICM
SP2 CNB7DEBA.ICM
MP3 CNB7DDBA.ICM
PR3 CNB7DCCA.ICM
PR2 CNB7DCBA.ICM
PR1 CNB7BCAA.ICM
I selected SP2 as I am using Premium Photo glossy paper (Ilford Printasia 28'g/m2)
Clicked add, then found the files in windows>System32>spool>drivers>colour

In lightroom:
Print resolution 24' ppi
Print sharpening Low
Media Glossy
Colour Management SP2
Perceptual

Page set up:
High standard

It would be great if anyone could have a look in case (which is more than likely) I have missed something in my set up.

I can see that there is a slight difference between the Canon 66''D and the Pro 9'''. For the later there is pull-down menu in the manual color management screen that alows a choice of three settings for color management-DRIVER MATCHING, ICC and NONE. I use the NONE setting and then check to make sure that preview is OFF. If you don't want to do this every time you print, you need to save the settings as a profile on a different screen in the Printer Properties. Then in Lightroom be sure that in the PRINT module that the Color Management Profile is set to Canon xxxxx and select the profile from the pull-down screen.
If this fails to correct your print color, then you really need to hear from someone who has your same print model and may have had a similar problem.

Trying to print

Well I have been having a good play around again today, nearly out of paper and patience!
I just want to make sure that I have understood the kind advice.
To have Lightroom control the print:
Make sure ICM is un ticked in the printer preferences
Make sure the preview before print is un ticked
Set to glossy photo paper
In Lightroom select profile IP66''D SP2

To have the printer control the print:
Have the ICM ticked
Set to auto
Make sure preview before print is un ticked
Set to glossy paper
In Lightroom select managed by printer

I just wanted to try and make sure I have set up correctly.

With Lightroom controlling – images are a little bright, anything with a light bit of red in, skin, heather come out much too red.

With the printer controlling – images darker, lack of much colour.

Printed through Vista (view through its viewer thumb nail, select print icon – as you see on the screen.

I guess the easy answer is print through Vista, but in Lightroom you have more control over the print.

Eileen, thanks for your advice, I have not tried that yet.
If I get a profile for my monitor, do you use that or the printer one as in SP2? Can you use two at once?

Has many people managed to get Lightroom to print accurately?
Or do you think I am battling a losing battle, and it is one of those things with too many variables?

Just following up

Hi everyone, I just wondered if anyone had any other suggestions. Following some advice on another forum I was going to try and get some custom profiles the paper company I use, to date thou they have not replied to my email. If there is anything else I could try please let me know. Thanks gmac
