Opened LR today like any other day and an experiencing very odd behavior -- All off the fields that include text embedded within the program are missing -- they are just black boxes. This is every field -- Devlop, Library -- everything. Even the import windows.

The attached screenshot should explain better. (Note: The blurred sections are my doing for the purposes of the screenshot) --- but you'll notice the black rectangles scattered around -- that's what I'm talking about.

Ah, you have the new version for court use that removes detail and protects the witnesses. Suggest you d/load again.

Only kidding - suggest you remove/rename the preference file and restart LR.

Well... even though your were sort of joking -- I did reinstall the program... and I'm getting the same thing. Can you explain your "preferences" solution in a little more detail so I don't screw something up more than it already is. Thanks for the help, btw.

I have a vague recollection of font server problems causing similar symptoms, part of the operating system. Does a reboot solve it?

Reboot doesn't do it. Thanks though... It's amazing how many things are actually solved with this.

Are you on Windows?? If so I will defer to a Windows user. If on Mac please say so.

I just dawned on me... I installed Photoshop CS4 in my machine and while I can't remember the exact timeframe in relation to this issue in LR, it wonder if the two are related.

Thanks!

That is a puzzle alright!!!
The PS install shouldn't affect anything, but you never know!!
I'll leave you to the PC people as I can't think of anything, sorry......

The only thing I can think of off hand that hasn't been mentioned, is to have a look for a file named TranslatedStrings.txt located at

sysdrive:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2.x\Resources\en\...

if you find it try temporarily renaming it .bak or something like that and restarting Lr.

I've scanned the thread, and don't see anything about this, have you tried moving up to the Lr2.3RC?

Well... There was no TranslatedStrings.txt file in the /en folder... there were in the other languages, so I renamed them (then tried deleting them)... still nothing.

Also upgraded to 2.3 and nothing either. I have this question on the Adobe boards and someone suggested deleted the "TranslatgedStrings.txt" file as well...

Adobe has been no help on this.

This is so frustrating. I've been using LR 2 for months no with no problem... I can't imaging what this is. It's obviously a font issue of some sort. Anyone have any thoughts on where fonts are stored? something I might have changed inadvertently? I don't have any plugins installed so it's not that...

Jeez...

Ok, here's a thought. What if you try Jeffrey's Configuration Manager to set a different font, and see if that works. http://regex.info/Lightroom/Config/

Well... tried that as well. Attempted my own configuration and used Jeffrey's as well. Nothing. Thanks though, Victoria -- I'm willing to try anything at this point. On a separate note: As stated earlier, I've tried to uninstall (using Windows standard Control Panel -> Add Remove Programs), but when I reinstall, it doesn't ask me for my License Key, it just simply launches and I'm left with the same problem as before. This leads me to believe that it's leaving some files/folders around when I do the uninstall -- how can I COMPLETELY REMOVE all files so that when I do the install again, it's as if the program was NEVER on my machine? Thanks all... again!

In this case, you may have to open the registry (with regedit32.exe) and search for Lightroom in the keys...

OMG --- I GOT IT! I have been running a Vista Emulator on my XP machine -- which, as soon as I deactivated -- returned ALL my LR texts. This is odd because I've been running this thing for months simultaneously with LR with no problems -- but I guess they issued an update or something which conflicted. Thank you to Geoff, Victoria and Brad who tirelessly gave advice trying to help. THANK YOU ALL!!!

Ok, thinking laterally, if you think this started when you installed CS4, how about deactivating/uninstalling CS4 and see if that helps?

And you said you've installed 2.3RC, didn't you? Tried a different catalog? (Ok, I know the last is a very long shot!) Preferences - did you have LR1 on the machine previously, and did you delete those preferences too?

Oh, nice job Garrett!!!!! Well done!

WAHOOOOOOOO !!!!:lol::lol:8)8)
