Lightroom Version
I have not been using Lightriom for several years and have forgotten how to use it completely it seems.
Plus I have switched from Windows to iOS on a mac book air. When I first got going I used a Scott Kelby book to navigate.

Is there a book available to get me up and going again.
My plan long term is to focus on an iPhone 16plus to capture images, when I can get the cloud to work it should auto share onto my new Mac 13 laptop. Currently it's not doing that and I don't know why tbh,
Any help much appreciated
Cheers

Andrew

Here's a Link to some online instructions: https://www.lightroomqueen.com/members/downloads/
You leave out a very important part of the information that we need to give you an accurate answer. These books have been updated and are geared toward the latest version of Lightroom Classic. They should be suitable for most earlier versions too.

As for your iPhone, I recommend against using iCloud to get your photos to Lightroom Classic. Instead Adobe has a cloud based app calle simply Lightroom. A mobile version is available for the phone and a desktop version for your MB Air (which runs MacOS not iOS. iOS is the operating system for phones and ipads)

Can’t guess at what important information I omitted.
Adobe Support helped me set up the Mac and told me to opt for a banner simply LR and not LR Classic.
So as far as I can tell I have the current latest version of just plain old LR. Are you advising to delete LR and then reload classic.
Looking at LR I can’t find an import feature at all so currently I have nothing on it. When I first installed LR my first task was to create a catalogue, can’t even find how to do that on this current format.

With Lightroom (aka Lightroom-Desktop v8.0) installed on your Mac, and-
The Lightroom app installed on your iPhone, this is what happens-

1) You can [ADD / Import] photos using either app. The photos are synced up and stored in the Lightroom Cloud and become automatically visible in all your devices with Lightroom installed. (The "catalog" is invisible- you do not need to create or modify a catalog. That happens in the Lightroom Cloud automatically.)

2) In the Lightroom-Desktop v8.0 app on your Mac you have the large interface where you can ADD photos and they sync to the Cloud catalog, or there is a (new) option to browse to 'Local' files on the hard-drive. There is also a browser version caller Lightroom-Web that allows you to use any internet browser to see you photos in a UI similar to Lightroom-Desktop.

3) In the Lightroom App on your phone you will preferably use the Lightroom camera that automatically adds the photos you take with the phone into the Lightroom 'Catalog'. With options you can also have photos from the iPhone camera automatically ADD to the Lightroom 'catalog'.

So basically- Install Lr v8.0 on your Mac, install Lr on the iPhone, be signed in with both devices, add (import photos or take photos,), view and edit your images on either device (Mac or phone).

Now Lightroom-Classic is an entirely different app that has graduated with a name change from the earliest versions of Lightroom (v1.0 - v6.0) to now be at v14.0.1. Lr-Classic manages you files and a catalog on a local hard-drive (as you might remember it if you have v1 - v6). It can be synced with mobile versions of Lightroom on the iPhone. Lr-Classic is only available in the Photography Plan 20GB.

You need to explore whether you want a Lr 'Cloud' catalog with photos stored in the Cloud, or manage your photo library in a local catalog and folders with Lr-Classic.
COMPARE LIGHTROOM & LIGHTROOM-CLASSIC FEATURES

Thank you Rob. Very helpful and I appreciate you taking the time to go into such detail for me.
Looked at the Apple App Store and now super confused about LR for Mob. Was under the impression that there were two options there a) an abbreviated free version and a bigger on available to subscription customers. I. Have had the 20GB subscription for about a decade now I think, can’t remember exactly ! Think I saw something when Adobe helped me get the desktop copy updated a week or so ago. Have not opened that yet to look tbh a bit hesitant, it’s all changed so much I simply do not see anything familiar and it’s a bit daunting. However, up for the challenge so we just whittle away one step at a time and with help I’m confident about getting back to flying through post processing and enjoying it
Thanks again
Cheers

If you already have a Photography Plan subscription can we assume that you are running a desktop operating system, e.g. MacOS or Windows (part of the missing details that we ask you to provide so that we don't have to make assumptions which often turn out to be wrong)? If that assumption is correct your first port of call should be to download and install the free Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop app (get it from the Adobe website after logging in with your Adobe credentials). Once installed, open it and use that app to download and install whatever apps that are eligible to use with your subscription (the CC Desktop app will only allow you to install the apps that your subscription covers). Read the article that Rob suggested to decide which version of Lightroom you intend to use going forward (Lightroom Classic will be more familiar to the version of Lightroom that you last used), and perhaps only install that first. No reason to install both desktop versions of Lightroom at this stage (many LrC users never install the other version).

You entered this issue in the Lounge rather than in Lightroom (mobile) or Lightroom Classic. I can't say which because you did not include that important info. Also "the Latest" is meaningless. What might have been the latest when you installed it could have been superseded with a more recent version that adds new features or fixes critical bugs. In the Last 6 months we have had 3 significant updates to Lightroom Classic. Actually "plain old Lightroom is really the New Lightroom. There is an even older version of Lightroom Classic (v 1-6) that was called Lightroom Lightroom Classic is at version 14. There are people still running Lightroom 6, Lightroom Classic v11, 12, 13 and 13.3.

If you were using Lightroom several years ago it was probably some variation of Lightroom Classic If Adobe set you up with Lightroom for the Adobe Cloud, I can understand why you might be confused trying to relate what you have installed with what Scott Kelby wrote. You might be more comfortable with the latest version of LrC. The People at Adobe are hired to run a support line and trained to follow a script. They may not always give the best answers especially if you don't provide an appropiate response to the questions they ask.
