help! my previewsfile is getting bigger and bigger

hey there,
after upgrading to 2.4 I tried to discard some of my 1:1 previews, which it did.
but even after relaunching ond optimizing, it doesn't reduce the size of the previews-file, sitting next to the catalog.although I've discarded around 35''' 1:1 previews.
any suggestions?

Have you waited more than 5 minutes???:lol::lol:

LR takes a while for the discard to occur - cmd-z wouldn't work if you made an error.
Check back later and see if the file has shrunk..........;)

I have the same problem. I select all the photo's and then go to discard 1:1 previews. Says that I have 35,'''. same amount as the photo's in catalog. Lightroom takes about 5 min to discard, but when lightroom opens and I select all photo's again and go to discard the 1:1 previews it still says that I have 35,'''. What's up??

[/quote]If you have the Module Picker exposed, you can watch the discard activity in a progress bar. I agree that after the discard operation, the size of the <catalog>Previews.lrdata folder does not change size appreciably.

I just ran a small test...

I moved the preview catalog file and then started LR, it acted as though all previews were gone as I would expect. Then I shut LR down and put the preview catalog back and restarted LR. It seemed to ignore the previews as if it didn't know they existed anymore.

I quit LR and then restored my LR catalog (I made a copy before messing about) and then it was ok. So if you have ever gone back to backup of your LR catalogue it may no longer be in sync with the previews catalog and maybe it's ignoring some of the files in there. ( I have no real proof of this theory but it did seem that way to me from my test)
