Help, LR 2.1 upgrade seems to have lost keywords

Hi all
i have just realized that since the 2.1 upgrade (on a Mac) i seem to have lost 1',''' image keywords, ie i now have 1',''' images without keywords. I had painstakingly put keywords on everything. I cannot face doing it all over again .

Any ideas?

Hi Joyce, welcome to the forum!

I haven't heard any other reports of keywords going walkabout in an upgrade, so don't panic yet.

Do you have catalog backups? My first thing to do would be to DUPLICATE the backups and try opening those to see when the keywords walked out - just double click on the lrcat files to open.

i am not sure how to add my information to the signature, so here goes. I have Lightroom 2.1, MacBook Pro with 4GB memory, photos are on a separate hard drive and backed up on another one. Camera is D3'' mostly, RAW files saved.

I have the first Lightroom, upgraded to LR 2, and truthfully may not have noticed about the keyowrds. I did see on another place on the internet that there was a problem with keywords going from LR 1.X to LR2. But that fix did nothing for me.

I do have the orignal catalogue backed up, but have no idea how to open it separately. I do not have a LR 2 that is differnt from the 2.1 catalogue.

i guess i need to know how to open the previous catalogue.

That's a great start Joyce!

Later on, you'll find the 'signature' section in the user cp - the links on the left of the menu bar.

For now, let's fix your catalog. Duplicate your 1.x catalog, maybe onto your desktop temporarily, so that we don't accidentally mess it up. Then just double click on the duplicate to open, easy as that. Let it upgrade, again saved on the desktop. See if your keywords are there.... and report back and we'll go from there!

You can have it open or not, by double clicking on the DUPLICATE 1.x catalog LR2 will open and upgrade the catalog. If LR2 is open you will need to select the catalog yourself.
