Hi Team

Hoping someone may be able to assist... I have no idea how I've managed this - I think it was when my Mac prompted me to optimise my drive and delete various files I got a bit carried away but I lost my Lightroom catalog but also all of the backup catalogs that were still stored in the same folder! (and yes I have some stored on an external drive but not for the past 6 months sadly)

In a panic I've ran a recover files program which identified a catalogue file that had been deleted which I believe would be it - 638mb and so I restored this to the computer but I am getting one of the two messages pending which way I go about trying to open it:

"Unexpected error opening catalogue
The catalog could not be opened due to an unexpected error."

"The Lightroom Catalog is corrupt and cannot be used or backed up until it is repaired" (and then error messages when click repair).

It also won't let me import the catalogue, saying:
Lightroom cannot import from this catalog.

I've also ran SQLite and the SQL file has the following error which makes me think I have no chance:
/**** ERROR: (26) file is encrypted or is not a database *****/

Strange though that the actual .lrcat file is 638mb though which would sort of indicate that there is some data contained within it.

IF ANYONE HAS ANY FINAL SUGGESTIONS I WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATIVE! I've lost 6 or so months worth of edits as the older backups have mysteriously disappeared and yes my bad I haven't saved to an external drive during this time. I was about 90% of the way through 3000 photos from an Iceland trip and I really don't want to have to start again ::)(

Welcome to the forum.
Can you restore your system from a TimeMachine backup or backup from some other system backup software?

Thanks for your reply, I can restore but unfortunately last back up not on the system was prior to a recent overseas trip... I've edited 1000s of photos since then... I'm so frustrated, I deleted the backups but didn't realise that my current catalog must have been reading from one of the backup folders as well

I can't even be sure that this restored file is my most recent catalog but can only hope!
