HELP:Best way to clean LR 2.6 catalog

Hi,

I am scanning analog to digital and as a result I have been importing multiple files of the same image as I have been in pursuit of the best possible scan rendition of each image.

I would like to remove most of the multiples from my LR catalog yet keep these image files either on CD or on the computer. What is the simpleset way to do this when in the Library mode?

Also... what is the best way to organize the images in the catalog in sub-folders? Is there a way to drag and drop images from one sub-folder to another... and if so which view mode do I need to be in to do it?

To delete from LR without deleting from disk, just select them and press the Delete key. You'll be given the option of just deleting from LR, or deleting from LR and also deleting from disk.

To drag and drop, you want to be in Grid. Select those you wish to move, then grab one of them (by the photo itself, not by the gray border) and drag into the destination folder in the Folders panel.

When you choose to just delete fro LR and not also from disk where do those deleted image files now reside if I wish to burn them to a DVD for archival storage?

If you select image/s to delete and select delete the following dialog will popup. I you select remove the files will be removed from the LR catalog but will remain in your OS folder. If you select "Delete from Disk" they will be removed to the recycle bin. If you subsequently remove them from your recycle bin then they are gone.

The actual images or copies of them are not stored in the LR catalog, the catalog contains info with respect to where the files are located and any other work you have done with the files in any of the modules. When you select remove that info is removed from the catalog and the original files remain intact.

I think by "remain in your OS folder" you mean the same location (folder) they were moved to when imported into LR... is this correct?
