Help a Mac brotha out!

Hi, I am a recovering PC user here and just switched to an iMac. What an amazing machine! However, I have all my images stored on my PC. How do I transfer my lightroom catalogs and settings from my Sony PC to the iMac? I assume this should be a fairly straight forward process? By the way, I do have lightroom on the iMac.

OK, I read the thread you pointed to evgill. However where is the LR catalogue located on the PC? And where is it located on the Mac? Also, how do I copy the catalogue from the PC to Mac? In what order? Should I import all the photos from my PC to Mac first?

I moved from PC to Mac recently and moved all my pictures and catalogue over, it was a pretty simple process. First though, BACK EVERYTHING UP!

There was already a folder named Pictures on tea Mac, so I first copied my folder structure from My Pictures on the PC to that folder.

My Lightroom Catalogue was in a Lightroom folder under My Pictures, but I can't recall if that's the default for Windows. If not you should be able to find it by searching for *.lrcat. I copied the catalogue into a new Lightroom folder within the Pictures folder on the Mac, but you can put it anywhere.

Then when opening Lightroom on the Mac, you can point it to location of the catalogue you have copied across and set it as the default in the preferences. If it has trouble finding any of your folders, you can right click on the folder name in the library module and point it to the new location, but as far as I recall I didn't need to do that.

Or after coping the catalog across to your Mac (with LR installed) just double click the catalog file and LR will open using that catlog.

I just noticed that my "user" develop presets did not move when I moved my catalog over from pc to my iMac. The default Lightroom presets are there, but I had a lot of user presets that didn't move. How do I move these?

The default location of the Presets is...
Windows XP - [systemdrive]\Documents and Settings\[your username]\Application Data\Adobe\Lightroom\Presets\

Windows Vista - [systemdrive]\Users\[your username]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom\Presets\

Mac - [systemdrive]/Users/[your username]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom/Presets/

Presets are cross-platform and are saved in a Lightroom only format (.lrtemplate)

Just copy the *.lrtemplate files from the pertinent Windows folder to the Mac folder.

Thank Victoria B for the handy reference to the multi-OS file locations. That's where I 'borrowed' it from.
