I reloaded my computer. I saved everything off to my external drive. Redid the pc. I loaded Lightroom but hadn't saved my images back onto my computer. My friend asked to see some of her daughter's photos I took, so I used lightrom to access my external drive...it created a catalog from the external drive.

I then knocked the drive off the table onto a tile floor...and it is dead.

I feel so teased! I can see the photos in lightroom still....even zoom in and out, but I can't make lightroom save the images with the original files not 'located'.

Short of screen capturing (which I am close to doing) is there any way to trick lightroom into saving the image without the original file?

Welcome to the forums Chel! :D

It is possible to save the previews generated by Lightroom but you will be limited by the largest ones generated. There is a little program that can do so but I don't remember at the moment.

Stay tuned as someone will give you a link to this program in a very short time...

Thank you all so much!! I could cry!! A lot of the ones I liked the best were large saves from where I zoomed in. I might not have all my photos, but at least I didn't loose everything!!

Thank you all sooooooo much!!

You are most welcome. Thanks for reporting back as we care. You now understand why most of us also duplicate on CDs/DVDs... One copy is never enough.

Chel,

There are a number of data recovery services that can probably recover your images from the dead drive. It may be costly, but your originals may be worth it.
