I used LR when it first came out … centuries ago and it was always my go to app for image work.
But I strayed to the dark side ! (when Adobe went subscription only )
Lured away by the shiny knobs and buttons of Capture One. (And tethered shooting)
There’s no doubt C1 is a very very powerful image system but the upgrades are ridiculously expensive and honestly I was not using all the functionality of the program.
So I’m back with LR after more than 10 years away.
Things have changed
A lot
I’m having to relearn skills and discover new ones.
No doubt be searching this forum for answers.
I have been a professional photographer for almost 60 years (!! Yes I know !,)
Did a photography degree course when taking pictures was complicated and darkrooms were smelly.
Started work on a newspaper, then a press agency in Paris, returned to uk , got married, joined the BBC, had children , went freelance , built a studio and now I’m slowing down.
Still have the studio space and a couple of clients who I cherish.
My life without photography would be very empty.

Hi David

Welcome to our Forums, and welcome back to Lightroom!

There's lots of very knowledgeable people here, happy to help from basic questions to complex ones.

And we look forward to the benefit from your vast photographic experience too!

Thank you Paul
I am pleased to be a part of such an experienced group and will be calling on the group expertise in the coming weeks.
I am in the process of using LR to archive all my work files from the past 12 years.
When I finish that I will look at personal files.
I also intend to start scanning my older negs and transparencies (was going to write trannies but that might have been confusing for younger readers )
So basically creating 3 large catalogs and I will have some questions about the best way to organise the files and databases
I’ll go over to the main forum pages to ask questions as they occur.
Regards
David GB

Much less impressive now
Had my moments in the sun - but the sun is going down now
But when I go I hope to have a camera in my hand.

There's lots of Blogs on our site too, that are helpful; here's one about negative processing:

https://www.lightroomqueen.com/invert-negative-scan/
That is interesting to note … I have a pretty good 35mm scanner that is doing a fine job on the old Tri-X negs (if you don’t now what Tri-X is, don’t worry it’s something old people used to have.)
But I expect there will be 6x6 negs and possibly some 5x4s too, that require attention so I will build a copying rig and simply photograph those and at that point your link to the LR facility will prove very useful. Thanks.
Must go now … I have 500K images to look at !
