I notice LR doesnt support ( wont import) HDR 32 bit files, is there any chance it might be able to at least provide a thumbnail preview in the future - even if it has a 'no entry ' sign to show you cant edit it?

I guess you have have to ask yourself why developers would want to spend their time developing a preview for something that isn't supported in the software to begin with when there are so many other features that people are looking for more popular with the majority of users.

For the same reason that they increased the limit on the pixel dimensions of files which could be managed. People asked for it. In the same way, many users would like to see Lightroom manage all sorts of files (eg video frames off their DSLRs) as file icons and with an Open With context menu.
