Hi Guys,

Im having problems when i shift from library to develop mode in LR2. When i look at my basketball photos in library mode, the blues seem so dull but when i go to develop mode, LR2 automatically saturates the blue for some weird reason thus giving it a more vivid color. But the problem is when i shift back to library mode, the blue saturation goes away.

Any glitches when it comes to LR2 on this?
I'm getting really ticked off and i'm really considering shifting to aperture. :(

There are only two reasons I can come up with for this, but neither completely explains the symptom you describe.

(1) If your Previews are set to Low or Medium quality in the preferences, then the previews are rendered in Adobe RGB, while Develop uses ProPhoto RGB. It's possible that the small difference between the two in the blues is visible on your monitor, but your description of "so dull" seems stronger than I'd expect. In reality, I'd expect it to be very hard to see any difference at all.

(2) If you aren't rendering previews on import (that is, if you choose Embedded), then perhaps you're seeing the camera's rendering in Library, then Lightroom's in Develop. But when you go back to Library, LR should rapidly rebuild the preview to match what was seen in Develop, so the blue saturation shouldn't go away.

One last wild guess -- is your monitor calibrated, and if so, can you try recalibrating?

Well yes my monitor's calibrated and it's still the same :(
Maybe i used the term "dull" wrongly, what I meant is that the blue turns more like violet when in library mode and into royal blue when in develop mode. I tried exporting to JPEG and it follows the violet of the library mode. Weird.

How do I check if im viewing low/med res previews?

Sorry I'm kinda new at this.

Thanks!

Go to Catalog Preferences. In the File Handling tab, there is a selection for Preview Quality. If it isn't High, try setting it to High. Then make a change to the image that will force a new preview, and see if the problem disappears. (I doubt it, but I hope to be pleasantly surprised.)

Welcome aboard, I'm sure your issue will get sorted !! It would help if we knew what system you are using so please take a moment to fill in your signature in the "userCP" top left of the page.
It would be handy to see some screen captures as well - thanks.......

Hi Ceekster

Yeah, I'm with Geoff on this one. It's a bit tough to fix blind, but screenshots would be a great help.

Hi!
I have noticed the same problem:
(Having problems with color saturation when i shift from library to develope mode)

and not only shift from develop to library but even in develop mode colors are different in FIT to zoom 1''%. You can easily see it in that moment when You change Fit mode to 1:1 and start panning through picture (left to right)...colors came not so saturated and beautiful as you wish. Interesting is that it is not happenig with all pictures only with some where colors are very saturated.

I tested to Export those pictures (aRGB, SRGB, ProRGB) and final result is that what you see in 1:1 mode or when you go back to Library mode...and that is NOT what I want to get ;(

So, here is link to examples (there will be 3 files):

http://www.kmfoto.lv/LR2_1_problem/

'1_Develop_FIT.jpg - here You can see how I want that picture look.. :cheesy:
'2_Develop_1to1.jpg - here You can see that colors are not that how they look in FIT screen :!:
'3_LIBRARY.jpg - here You can see final look.... in Library mode ;(

So - is there a solution?

Tomorrow I will try dual monitor setup and check zoomed colors on it ....while browsing on 1st...

Thank You!

Martins
p.s. please email me if You found a solution!

Martins, try setting the previews to High quality in preferences and re-render (you may have to make a change to the file, render the preview, and change it back in order to force it to re-render). From memory, low and medium are stored as AdobeRGB and high is ProPhotoRGB, which could explain a slight difference at high saturation colours.

What do the exported pictures look like?

Oh, when you try dual monitor, just do dual window on the same monitor, otherwise you'll be adding another variable into the mix.

Hi!
New day, new problems...
thanks,
setting the previews to High quality - that already is done.

The exported pictures look like that what I can see in Library mode.

Check this:

http://www.kmfoto.lv/LR2_1_problem/sRGB_ARGB_ProRGB_LR.jpg

sRGB_ARGB_ProRGB_LR.jpg - exported Tiffs + screenshot from Develop mode

Library mode show the same as exported......

Maybe problem is because to get rich colors I used Graduated filter tool?
Check:

http://www.kmfoto.lv/LR2_1_problem/GraduatedFilter.jpg

But today I have 2 more important problems to solve:

1. For last 2 days I tested Adjustustment Brush and it worked OK
- but today I tried on the same picture draw 2 kind of Adj. brushes...
one with Exposure (+) and second with Exposure (-)...and I can't edit them!!! because there are no more selection buttons on picture to choose!? But in the same time with Graduated filter tool I can paint and edit - delete as much graduations as like...... and in EFFECT menu there are no my presets it show only custom...

Check:
http://www.kmfoto.lv/LR2_1_problem/Adjust_Brush.jpg

Maybe I need reset LR preferences? (How to do it?)

2. After restart There are no more User presets... I checked in finder and they are in the same place, but LR didn't show them, okey to make I simply reimported them and now it's ok.

But in film strip line it still show that Side car file missing....
how to correct it? :?:

Thank You!

Martins

Let's do one at a time then! Last problem first - try pressing H to unhide the pins.

No worries Martins, I'm glad we could solve one problem!

So do you still seem the same colour shift when you haven't used the graduated filters?

Ok, another thought, while we're experimenting... that looks like you have PS - is that CS3 or CS4? If so, hit Cmd-S to write your settings to xmp and open in ACR - see what the preview in ACR matches.

It is CS3, AdobeCamera RAW 4.6.

I don't see the point to try look at that picture in camera raw because in LR 2.1 to get those saturated color in midle of photo I used Graduated Filter:

http://www.kmfoto.lv/LR2_1_problem/GraduatedFilter.jpg

so, if I try to convert even to DMG and open it in ACR - graduated filter effect disappear.

Just for fun I exported my RAW file with all adjustments to DNG file and then re imported to LR2.1 and now for a few seconds I have more fun because now Library and DEVELOP mode show the same "target image" the way I wanted but then just for interest I zoomed it to 1:1 and after high quality rendering we again in the same situation like before....

So to find solution quicker - here is DNG file with all those modifications:

http://www.kmfoto.lv/LR2_1_problem/_MG_3533.dng

approx . 21MB!

Don't kill me for quality it is just a test file ;)
and
please confirm after You download it because of my bandwidth limitations.

Hope we will get some light on this problem.

Thank You!

Martins

If you've saved the settings to XMP, ACR 4.6 can read the graduated filter settings, it just doesn't have an interface for adjusting them. Or it should anyway.

Anyway, file's downloading now. It's getting late here, but I'll look again in the morning.

Martins, for what it's worth, I'm seeing something weird as well.

In switching back and forth between Loupe View and Develop Module, I'm seeing that Fit and Fill views in Develop are different from every other view/zoom.

in the following e=Loupe view, and d=develop view

These views I see as the same
eFit = eFill = e1:1 = e3:1(or larger) = d1:1 = d3:1(or larger)

but these are not identical to

dFit = dFill,

which are identical to each other.

I'm seeing the difference principally as a change in the saturation of yellow/orange in the specular highlights surrounding the central swan. (i.e. the reflection of the sun in the water). dFit and dFill, show this as yellow/orange, the remaining views show much more whitish highlights there.

I don't even have a guess as to what's going on there.

Hi!
Victoria, Brad and everyone!

Thank You for checking!

I hope LR guys will sort out this problem...
via update? :cheesy:

and something from wishlist:
And please, please include lens Distortion + Vertical and Horizontal Perspective transformations correction tool like Preset or Effect with posibility to download latest lens calibrations so people can easly exchange lens databases and put them together!

Thank You!

Martins, yep, I see the same. Any objection if we send the file on to Adobe with the bug report? It's easier to explain when you can see it!

Ok Martins.... now just hope it gets into the priority list....

It's really tough to put this one into words! At a guess, I'd say it comes down to the resampling in Develop module.

Workaround for now: When you make your Develop changes and zoom into 1:1, a full 1:1 preview in generated. That preview does resample correctly when you switch back to Loupe fit view.
