Have you abandoned Ps in favour or Lr?

I wonder how many of us Photoshoppers have stopped using Ps altogether.

I still do all my fine work in Ps, using Lr as my main application for sortiing and viewing and developing. But when I need to do any dodging or burning, History brushing or, in fact, any fine manipulation of the print, as well as sharpening with Photokit, I do the round trip to Ps and come back for printing or web output.

How about you?

I could live without LR but not Photoshop. I've gotten to where I'm more comfortable adjusting raw images in LR than ACR, but it still only gets me about 85% of the way there(not counting serious retouching).

Also, after 14 years of Finder/folder based file management, I'm still trying to get my head around working with a database, especially since LR doesn't handle all of the file types that I work with.

I hardly touch Photoshop for photos these days, leaving them all to Lightroom. I've never cared much for burning/dodging and photo manipulation. I used to make the vast majority of my adjustments in ACR, and now I do them in Lightroom. I mostly use Photoshop for web-design and image manipulation, and not so much for photos.

I also (almost) stopped using PS. The last time I used PS was to layout a calendar with 14'+ commented photos (exported from LR to a PS droplet) six months ago and once last week to redesign our buniness cards from a photo (out of LR) I took in 2''2.

So, mainly PS for design work and LR for photographic work.

Actually, I would only use it now for image manipulations and the few things LR still can't do. Local Corrections, warping of parts of an image or barrel distortion corrections for perspective.

Hardly ever fire it up anymore.

Use 5'-5' at the moment but moveing over to a Mac soon so will give Apature 2 a go, from what i have seen so far it will be CS3 and ????..

I only use PS for very few tweaks to an image now. I would say 99.5% LR

I still use it for its intended purpose - pixel pushing. I still do quite a lot of retouching for other people, so Photoshop still has its place, but Lightroom does 99.9% of my processing these days.

I find PS CS to complex and to expensive for my needs. Use PSE for a few task while I wait for selective editing in LR!

Ps

I use it for pixel pushing as well - and for all the fine things that Lr doesn't do, and isn't intended to do.

I initially thought that Lr would be my principal DAM program, and would replace my RAW processor - RawShooter. I found that Lr's develop module is much more effective for my use than doing the same sort of things in Ps, but, and it's a big but - there are times when the clone tool is the difference between a yukky messy photo and a polished beautiful photo. Photos of swans for instance, dark water, beautiful bird, great reflection, a bit of floating garbage, some feathers, a stick ... messy nature. I'm not married to reality to the point where I feel obliged to keep the garbage in the shot. Clone tool.

Sky a bit bleh, even after you have used a bit of fill and recovery, bapped up the blue saturation a bit and hit the clarity up a notch ... off to Ps and get out the history brush, set to multiply and paint.

Trees need a bit more local contrast - history brush and a slight touch of screen. Nothing that Ansel Adams would have sniffed at if he knew about it, but still fine touches that might give a photo that extra edge.

You can't do that in Lr.

I was wondering how many of you still take that trip, and consider it an essential part of their work flow.

I do most of my PP in Lightroom. Only about 5-1'% of my images ever see Photoshop any more! I then only do that for Mike's framing script and Noise Ninja.

I'm using PS more than I thought I would, being fairly new to both PS and LR. Being a relative PP newb in the last couple of months, I'm learning LR through the 'net (mostly here), a couple of books and trial/error, but I'm also learning PS via a 6 week course (half way through).

I use LR for the broad adjustments, to crop, adjust levels, fill light etc, but I'm addicted to USM.

So far I find PS far better at sharpening, especially local adjustments where I've got a great shot but with less DOF than I'd like (at least when looking at 1''%). Then again, that could speak to my ability with the camera, or lack thereof. New camera in November, but I've found myself putting the cart before the horse too much of late. So much to learn.

Also I find ACR tends to really saturate the reds on the NEFs, I'd tone it down in LR, but those shots with faces in them as well as, say red clothes, then get bland in the face, so back to PS for selective edits.

Of course there's only so much time in a day/week/month to learn. I suspect after the PS course is finished I'll get back to basics behind the cam and then slowly re-learn what I've then forgot about LR and PS and find a balance btw shot taking and PP as the experience levels grow. I suspect as I get a handle on things I'll be using PS less, but for now, that seems like a large leap. I'm not even using 3rd party plug-ins yet! (LR or PS).

Have been using LR for organization. And use CS3 for some serious effects. Also find that CS3 produces better prints on my smaller Epson.

I like Lightroom and do most of my work there but at times I want the healing brush and sometimes I want to correct the perspective.

I don't have PS and am in the process of finding out whether I can do without it. What I could use in LR from time to time is a dodging/burning facility. That's the only thing I have been missing so far.

I would like to give HDR a go some time soon or multiple shots with different focus blended. This will involves blending multiple photos into one. I think there is an LR extension for this. Don't know, though, whether that'll do the trick.

Currently I really am shy of investing in PS, as it is -- for me -- the heck of a lot of money.

There are other image editors besides Photoshop. Pixelmator seems to be the best of the rest for the Mac. If you need all that Photoshop has to offer then there's no way around it, but these new pixel editing apps offer a lot for the money.
