There must be a topic on this already, but my searches aren't turning up anything.

I'm trying to start up Lightroom and it's just hanging. Worked fine yesterday. First time trying to start today, it asked me if I wanted to do the weekly back-up. I said yes. It seemed to be doing its thing and then I got the spinning ball for so long (around 3' minutes) I had to do a force quit - (said LR was not responding) So when I restarted, I decided to skip the back-up just see if it would open and now it's just hanging there on the credits splash box.

Suggestions please.

I'm trying to start up Lightroom and it's just hanging...[/quote]You are right, and I can't find the prior topics either. I did find this:" I'd try deleting/moving the preferences file and letting it build a new one..." I think the problem might be in your preferences settings. I would not delete the file, but rename it.. Without a .lrprefs files, LR will ask you to build a new one. That should solve your problem. If it does not. by renaming, you still have your old preferences file.

This did it, thanks so much. I did have to go find my LR catalog afterwords as it made a new catalog, but it's open now. Whew.

After a forced quit there is absolutely no need to trash preferences having to rebuild them... Just look for a file named YourCatalogName.lock in the same folder as your catalog and delete it and nothing else!

EDIT: Trashing preference was for your first problem, not the second.
