Grey Squares after importing?

I haved googled and googled about this issue and still have not found a fix for it. When I hit import and choose the photos I can see them just fine once they have imported they turn to grey squares. Is there an easy fix for this? I have included screen captures to show exactly what I am seeing.

I am using Beta 3

Tatiana,

Many similar problems reported were caused by corrupt monitor profiles. Is your monitor calibrated/profiled? If yes, try recalibrating it. If no, try (temporarily) assigning a standard sRGB profile to the monitor and see if it helps.

If you are importing from the camera try a card reader instead. This has also been reported as a cause of the problem but I have not seen the reason explained.

I have a brand new monitor conneceted to my laptop. I wonder if it's got something to do with that? Also, I am not calibrated.

I put all of my raw + jpegs into a file on my external hard drive and then import from the external hard drive.

Tatjana,

I would suspect that it's either a corrupt monitor profile or a driver issue. Try updating your video driver to the latest available and, if this does not help, assign a generic sRGB ICC profile to your monitor (this is a temporary solution only to see whether it helps).

Glad it worked out for you

But be aware that using an sRGB ICC profile for your monitor is only a workaround, not a correct solution (your colors will be more or less correct). You should consider calibrating your monitor with a hardware device, this can be done at little cost and is basically indispensable when working on images. If you don't calibrate, you are going to optimize an image to your monitors behaviour, which nobody else (including external print shops) will have.

Oddly I came across the same issue yesterday.

First solution, exit LR2 and restart it. Everything was working great until I imported the next set of photos and start navigating around or edit in Develop.

Second solution, which now seems to work better whenever this problem occurs. When the problem (grey boxes) occurs, I would goto Library module and then goto the menu select Library / Previews / Render Standard-Sized Previews. Let that finish and then navigating around the grey boxes goes away, the images returns.

Is this a Lightroom bug? It seems to have only started with 2.7. I never came across this with 2.6.

JChin, if it's happening that weirdly and irregularly, then it's probably not the monitor profile, which would be the usual suspect. If photos that previously had previews then get grey boxes, I'd wonder if your preview cache is corrupted. You could try closing LR, finding your catalog, and deleting or moving the *.lrdata folder next to the catalog, and then try rendering the previews again, and hopefully they'll stick.
