Geosetter + DNG = no GPS location in LR ?

I wanted to put some GPS location on my DNG photo's.

LR (2) has no way of doing this, so I am using geosetter for this.

In geosetter it looked like I added geo tags to the files. But when I open these files in LR it does not show any GPS location.

Could anybody shine some light on this ?

I'm using DNG files.

Don't do this myself, but I think you have to do a 'Read Metadata' from the image files for LR to become aware of the GEO data.

This may have the added complication of overwriting the existing metadata in the catalog.

I think the sequence is along the lines of:

1) add the GPS data to the source files with Geosetter
2) From LR: SAVE metadata to the image file
3) From LR: READ metadata from the image file.

I'm not positive of this, so please just experiment with *one* file, before trying this out with your whole catalog. :)

I am not having this problem with Geosetter. The GPS information appears to be properly written to a .dng file and then it does indeed show up in Lightroom for me. In Geosetter, are you sure you are selecting Images->Save Changes before you go ahead and import into Lightroom?

paige, are you doing the GPS before or after you import into LR?

I was assuming from tvds' post that his images had already been imported into LR, and he was trying to GPS retroactively.

I believe that, as you say, they will import fine, without the extra manipulation.

You are right, the photo's are already imported in LR before I put them in Geosetter.

I will try to reload the metatags in LR tonight.

Well I use RoboGEO as I had recently problems with the GPS plugin for Lightroom. Now I change the exif in RoboGEO in DNG files and then just "ask" in Lightroom to read metadata from files

Yes, the GPS is in the files before I import into Lightroom.
