Thinking ( wistfully) of getting the Canon G1' and 5D2 (very soon available -) but am not sure if LR supports RAW from these yet, or how soon it will - any one know?

Anyone who knows is not at liberty to say.
However, history shows that each update to LR contains support for anything that's been released, and in many cases has preliminary support for things that are about to be released. And we've heard that Lightroom 2.2 is not far off.

Yes, but it wasn't out when 2.1 was released. So we can guess it'll be supported in 2.2, based on past history of Lightroom/ACR releases.
