Folders "linked"

I have discovered a weird issue with my Lightroom catalog that, unfortunately, resulted in me inadvertently deleting some images. Some folders in the Folders pane are somehow "linked" for the lack of a better term. For example, I have the following two folders:

2006_04_29
2006-04-29

I'm trying to clean up my catalog so I've been moving/renaming (through Lightroom) to fix the issue. The weird thing is if I open an image in 2006_04_29 and look at the system file info, it shows it actually lives in 2006-04-29. Unfortunately, this is after I deleted a dozen or so folders. Deleting from either folder deletes from both.

I'm not sure if this may have happened back in the Lightroom 2/3 days before I knew not to move things outside of Lightroom, but I'm surprised the catalog optimization or synchronization both didn't fix it.

Any thoughts or suggestions on how to fix it?

Thanks,

Kevin

Kevin,

Welcome to the forum.

My. That is strange. I can reproduce your problem.

I have a folder named not_easy (my folder for testing LR). I created a second named not-easy and moved (via LR) one image from the first folder to the newly-created one.

The image counts on the two folders look correct: 12 in the first folder and 1 in the second, but the moved image now appears in the grid for both folders, and the grid for the original folder still shows 13 images. The actual folders on disk contain what they ought to.

So, yes, you've almost certainly found a bug.

I think you'll have to manually (from within LR) move the images from one folder to the one you think they belong in. Are the deleted images or folders still in your Trash?

Hi Hal,

Thanks for verifying this for me. It's been driving me crazy! Maybe I'll just create a new folder and move them into it and see how that works. I think (hope) the files are still in my Trash. I see folders, but no single files so I'm a little concerned. I'll try to submit the bug to Adobe and see what happens.
