Flag status not held from Collection to Library

Is this a bug? or just an inconvenience.

When viewing images in a collection I can flag them (pic/rejects) but when viewing the same images in the main library those flags are not honored.
Therefore the shortcut for deleting rejected flagged images will not work.

Interestingly though, a star rating or color rating will be honored in the main library when assigned in a collection. Based on that, I think the flag issue is a bug.

In the Library module, photos can display rating stars, flags, and color labels, depending on the view options you set. Rating star and label settings are applied globally in all collections, while flag states are local. You can have different flag states in different collections."

Not a bug but a system to allow a variation of picks.

It's actually quite useful having local flags as well as a global ranking system. For example, say you went to the zoo, and you're taking pictures which are going to be used for different things - some to send to granny, some to submit to a competition, some to put in the family album etc. The global star ratings are all well and good, but you may look for different things in the picture, depending on your output. The picture of the kids sticking their tongues out at the elephant may be a reject for the competition, but a pick for the family album, and the beautiful headshot of the lion would be a firm favourite for the competition, but granny wouldn't like it. That's where the local level flags come into their own.

While I have to accept now that it is not a bug Im not convinced of its practicality. Victoria's scenario seems like it would be well covered with a collection from the zoo and sub collections of the zoo images for granny and competition work.

The flags are extremely useful for the weeding process : Pick (it stays) Reject (it goes)

Perhaps a modification in the menu for Photo. When in the library the "Delete Rejected Photos" does what it says (currently the case) But when in a collection it could say "Remove Rejected Photos" (which is actually what it does)

That way one wouldn't waste time going through multiple collections flagging rejects and thinking that the delete rejected would actually delete the files, as was the intention.

Two separate objectives for the same command? Hmmn?

Best guess is the way it works now wont be changed anytime soon, because it is 'by design', and many find it useful.

I never noticed this behavior before and I find Victoria's point of view very interesting...

Up to now, I just used flags for two things:

1: Flag (reject) those I want to destruct both from disk and Lightroom and then do it in one step rather than wait for the delete one by one.

2: Let my wife flag (retain) those she know she can sell once printed when she show them at the next Football game (week). So I just have to export them for the printing process.

The fact is that she is a good seller (I am not) and she does it while I am taking the photos...

But my wife, altough being good at knowing which shots will be good sellers, is a real Goofy at the computer so I do not like the idea of letting her (or anyone else) working in my computer profile.

Knowing that her selections wont affect my collections is a good thing to know! Lightromm is well tought afterall...

This lead me to open a new topic in the "General Discussion" about making Lightroom multiuser aware. No typos here! There is a way to do so in the "Edit/Preferences" menu and I am surprised that no one ever mentioned it!
In fact, everyone say: "Lightroom is a single user program".
