I'm on Windows XP, with LR 2.1 and Photoshop CS3 (1'.'.1).

I have my files named "'8-12-'2 XXX-''1.CR2" etc. When I edit in Photoshop (preferences set for .psd files), the file shows up with that name. When I click Save, the file goes back to Lightroom and is stacked with the original, but the final number is changed to a different number (and I thought it was supposed to add "edit" which it doesn't do).

In other words, a file named "'8-12-'2 XXX-'15.CR2" comes back as "'8-12-'2 XXX-'23.psd" (with no apparent rhyme or reason to the number). And since there is already a ..'23.cr2 file, this is going to be confusing.

I have searched the help file but can't figure out what I am doing wrong (or what LR is doing wrong).

Thanks,

Bob

Welcome Bob, how do you select the file to be edited externally? By clicking the image or the frame of the thumbnail? Are the images similar to a point that you edit one and it is another? Or, is the image to be edited the "most selected" one?

solved

I poked around a little more and found that I had set the filename prefererences under "external editing" the same as in my import from disk, and so now I changed that from my custom template to "filename" and now it works ok.

Thanks for your responses,

Bob
