Please help.

I am just starting with LR2 with the help of Scott Kelby's book.

I have been trying to rename a set of 6 images already in my PC and which have the following out-of-camera names : DSCF3846.jpg, DSCF3847.jpg, ..., DSCF3851.jpg.

I created my own custom file naming template so that the images should be renamed as follows : "yyyymmdd_trm_nnnn_f.jpg".

"yyyymmdd" is the date created, "trm" is the author ID, "nnnn" is the image unique number, and "f" is the camera ID.
I have used the "Filename Number Suffix" macro to buildup my naming template in the naming field of the "Filename Template Editor".

In both the "Filename Template Editor" and the "Import Photos" window, the new filename examples read correctly.
But when I IMPORT, the renamed files have the following new names : 2''8'821_trm_2_f.jpg, 2''8'821_trm_2_f-2.jpg, 2''8'821_trm_2_f-3.jpg, 2''8'828_trm_2_f.jpg, 2''8'828_trm_2_f-2.jpg, 2''8'828_trm_2_f-3.jpg.

I have batch renamed these exact same images in Bridge CS3 without any problems.

What am I doing wrong ?

Many thanks for any help.
Tim

Hi Tim, welcome to the forum!

Is it renaming literally with the letters trm and f?

Can you post a screenshot of the template editor?

Welcome to Lightroom Forums.

There's not quite enough information here to say for sure, but perhaps you're looking for "Original number suffix", not "Filename number suffix"?

The difference is that "Original" takes the suffix out of the filename as created by the camera, while "filename" takes the suffix out of the current filename.

the -2, -3 appendages are only there for when a filename already exists and Lightroom is trying not to overwrite the first version.
Sounds like you're using the template to rename files that have already been renamed.
I think Mark is correct that you should be using "Original number suffix" instead of "Filename number suffix"

Hi Victoria,
Here is a screenshot (click on image to zoom-in) of the template editor :

Mark, I cannot find the "Original Number Suffix" option in the Template Editor.
Many thanks for your help.

Hi Mark, please disregard my comment in my previous post as on further investigation I find that in my filenaming setup I am already using the "Custom Name - Original File Number" macro.
Sorry for the muddle and many thanks for your help.
Tim
