File rename error

You're going to have to tell us a little more detail. What version LR? Mac/PC? OS? stuff like that.

Is it just these 2'' files? What about renaming just one? All in the same folder? Internal or external drive? Is it currently connected?

Was Lightroom trying to do anything else to the files at the same time? I've seen it fall over while trying to build previews of the same files in the past.

And are those files definitely accessible - no question mark on the thumbnails, and you have write privileges to those files?

I've heard this morning of someone else who had a similar problem - and it was fixed when she loaded 2.'. If you're considering upgrading anyway, it might be worth a shot!
