File Names with New Camera Added?

This is an elementary question, I'm sure. I just purchased a Nikon D2'' which will eventually replace my D8'. Meanwhile, both cameras will be functional and I'll use them alternatively as I learn the D2''. I understand that that the image files from both cameras will be renamed as I import the images into LR. First, it seems logical that following the import by date, and being careful to follow the import of each group of images with the next group assuming the next number in sequence after the final number of the preceding group, the LR catlogue of images and the actual files on the hard drive should ot be confused with each other. Second, however, are the images also stored on the hard drive using the Nikon naming protocol, which would cause an obvious conflict with duplicate names as the newer D2'' images are stored in the same subdirectory (Windows)?

Jim, at import time you can edit the renaming sheme and make a template of it. In the "Others" section, in the pull down, you can select the camera model to distinguish the D8' from the D2''...

If you rename on Import, then no, the files are not stored using the Nikon naming protocol.
