File creation time not showing

I'm having a problem seeing the Creation time of a file in LR 2.1. Date is showing, but the time created, <Hour-Min-Second>, is not, the date created is just repeated. This is information I really need, and is making LR unusable for editing.

Is there something simple I'm missing, or is this a bug? Happens with all RAW files, DNG or camera specific.

System: Mac Pro, 2.8 GHz Quad, OS 1'.5.5, 4 GB Ram

Thanks.

Rick, Welcome to the forums.

Where exactly are you looking to see this incorrect info? I only ask because I haven't seen any bugs like this reported. (Lots of date related bugs, but not this one)

In the Library module, the Capture Time fields. Date is correct, Month/Day/Year, but I have no Time info, date is just repeated.

Everything works fine in Bridge, so I have to do time-based edits in Bridge, not LR, which adds much extra work.

Thanks,
Rick

Here's a screen shot of the area in the develop module:

CaptureTime.jpg

Fascinating. What kind of camera generated these files? Does the time show properly in other views (like "EXIF", "Location", or "Quick Describe", which use a different format to display the date and time)?

Fascinating is not what I wanted to hear. This makes LR unusable for the way I edit.

Like I said in the original post, it happens with all RAW files, DNG or camera specific. I convert all RAW files to DNG, but this happens with Canon Raw files and Pentax PEF converted to DNG. I don't understand this, since DNG was developed by Adobe.

Thanks.

And yes, it happens in other views. No problems in Bridge.

Hi Mark - -

The screen shot IS from a DNG file, RAW files from the camera are exactly the same, "Quick Describe" shows the date repeated twice on the same line. NO view shows the time.

EXIF view:
CaptureTime2.jpg

Okay, thanks. I don't think I can help further without seeing one of the original files (I need to peruse the metadata using an EXIF viewer).

And one other question -- have you done any customization using Jeffrey Friedl's metadata viewer preset builder, or otherwise futzed with your TranslatedStrings.txt file? That's the only other way I can think of for this to happen, assuming your raw/DNG files aren't messed up.

Can you post the original raw and DNG file somewhere so we can try a few things - or attach them to a bug report!

Thanks for the help.

Here's a link to a new raw file:

Thanks Rick. This is the data I see.... does yours say the same?

Ok, definitely some weirdness going on!

Troubleshooting time!

First, have you tried deleting/moving the preferences file and let it rebuild?

Did you ever use Jeffrey's Metadata Preset Builder? http://regex.info/blog/2''7-'3-13/395

Is there a file called TranslatedStrings.txt at /Applications/Adobe Lightroom.app/Contents/Resources/TranslatedStrings.txt - if so, move/delete it.

Does it still appear if you set the Metadata panel preset to something other than EXIF?

I deleted the preferences file, no change. I did find the LR beta preferences and deleted that.

No.

I searched for TranslatedStrings.txt, found nothing. LR is not in my applications folder, but in a separate folder called Tools, where PS and Bridge also are. One thing I noticed, I don't have a folder for LR2, Just the application file, ~82MB.

Every view has no File creation time, all files, RAW or JPG.

Any other ideas? Thanks.

I reported the bug, and I'll try reinstalling after deleting the program.

I deleted everything and reinstalled LR2, including the 2.1 update. Same problem. Any other ideas?

Thanks.

Ah, I love a good mystery...

While I can't recreate the problem using your test file either, I'm looking into it to see if I can find anything odd. On the surface the metadata looks fine, so I'm still inclined to think it has something to do with your Lightroom installation.

It looks to me like your sample DNG file has been processed by an Adobe tool (maybe just the DNG converter, but I can't tell for sure).

Any chance you can supply a file straight out of the camera, just to eliminate another variable? (It can be a shot of the back of the lens cap; the image content is unimportant.)

To verify that there is no TranslatedStrings.txt hackery involved:
- In the Finder, go to your Applications folder
- Right-click (or Control-click) on Adobe Lightroom 2, and select "Show Package Contents" from the context menu
- Navigate to Contents/Resources
- See if there's a file called TranslatedStrings.txt in that directory. If so, please upload it here.

Thanks for the help, Mark. I convert all my RAW files to DNG. The file I uploaded is converted from a Pentax PEF, but this happens with all my files.

I've uploaded a Canon RAW file, Test_'4'6'7.CR2, from several years ago, same problem. Get it here: <http://drop.io/CR2_Test>

Question: How can I upload this file to the forum, since it is not a supported file type?

I checked the Lightroom Package Contents, and there was no file called TranslatedStrings.txt.
