faster to develop on a standard preview or 1:1 preview

Hello,
I have been doing 1:1 preview on my images and then developing them. I figured things might be faster this way since the info is already in the system....is this faster; or maybe the smaller standard sized previews might be quicker to do your raw process on..or does it matter?
Just trying to make things as quick as possible.

It doesn't matter. Develop doesn't operate on the previews.

However, if you have just rendered previews for that image before entering Develop, much of the data may be in memory or in the ACR cache, which might speed things up (compared with not rendering previews first, but that's still going to be slower than just going to Develop.

Are you seeing significant delays switching to the Develop module, or while working in the Develop module?

When in develop mode, for each new image it takes about 7 seconds until I am able to make any adjustments to the image...it's loading the histograms and such. 7 sec's does not sound like much, but when going through thousands of images...it is frustrating having to wait that long for each and every image.
I figured that by using a full preview, all of that info would already be stored and ready and the image would pop up immediately ready for adjustments.

is this normal?
My files are from a canon 5d raw (12.5MP camera) and a G4 power pc...1.5ghz...1.25 GB ram

I've got 4,''' images I've gotta edit through in a week from a photo shoot out in new zealand...and a wedding coming up! Anything that would make things faster would help.

That's not a lot of hardware for 12 megapixel files.

Your best bet is probably to carefully select which files you need to edit in Grid, minimizing the number as much as possible, then only develop those. Where possible, develop using presets, sync, and/or copy & paste rather than individual tuning (that's the general recipe for a high-quantity workflow, regardless of computing horsepower).

thanks mark....yeah, that's kinda what I figured. I should prob put up the money for a new computer...but just spent all my cash on new camera gear; so I'll have to make due with what I've got for now.
Those 3,''' images have been heavily edited down from about 6,'''+ so I'm pretty much stuck editing all those - such is life though.
And presets, copy, paste do help much and I use them, just trying to make sure I'm doing everything I can to make things faster.

Was pretty lucky with some great weather last month. Highlight....doubtful sound overnight cruise....blew milford out of the water! Wish I had time to do some of the treks though.

yeah...stunning country. I've been lucky enough to travel around that country 2'+ times now and just love it. Second home to me now.
My parents have been talking to immigrating there from California for many years now. I was finally able to help them out in getting over there for the first time over xmas. They came back from their two week trips already planning their next trip a few months down the road and the only thing they could talk about is how they want to immigrate there ASAP.
My dad was pretty distraught when he found he had passed the age limits for immigration.
His dream of living and surfing out his retirement in Raglan kinda came crashing down on him sadly. Hopefully he will find a way though.
