Failure to launch 1.41 and Beta 2

I can not launch either LR 1.41 or Beta 2. About 1 second after launching, a message appears saying Lightroom has to shut down. I use updated XP (32) and have no trouble with the reinstalled LR 1.31 or any other installed program. I have spent the last two weeks trying: removing the pref file, removing, downloading and reinstaling all LR programs, defraging, reg clean, new video driver and probably other things I could think of. Does anyone have any cures for this?"

C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Adobe\Lightroom\Preferences

I renamed it with a leading X. Still shuts down while launching. jc

So can I check I understand this correctly - 1.3.1 is fine but 1.4.1 aren't?

Still can't launch LR 1.41 or LR 2

I still can't get the new programs to launch. I can hold down the ctl key while launching and get the dialogue to select the working catalog or a new empty catalogue I have built for LR 2 and then it creates the error message described in my original post. I have not had any problems launching and running LR1.31 on this computer. I have also removed LR 1.31 and tried to launch the new programs with the same error message. thanks jc
