I am attempting to use the face recognition feature. Lightroom face detection is running (not paused). It's my understanding that once the scan of the entire catalog has started, there is no way to stop the catalog scan and target a folder or collection. I understand that it is a large task, and that I need to be patient. But I would like to be able to observe progress. I have tried two approaches:
1) If I'm reading the data reported at the bottom of the screen for face recognition correctly, Lightroom recognizes 72449 faces in my catalog. For the attached screenshot, I have selected all the photos in the Unnamed people window for which Lightroom is suggesting a name (2522); the remaining 62825(?) photos with faces have only a "?" in the name field. These numbers are not changing.
2) Alternatively, in the Unnamed People window, browsing to the last of the faces with suggested names, I would suspect that there be movement as more names are suggested. There is no apparent change between the two groups (those with suggested names, and those with only a "?").
Has the process stalled? Are there settings that I need to check? Is there another method to observe progress? Or am I expecting something that Lightroom cannot do?

If the numbers are not changing then I'd say the "detection" portion of the process has completed. What remains is for you to either or reject suggested names for those that have suggestions and to supply names for those with just a "?".

Incorrect.

That's very interesting. I can't find anything that looks like this "Welcome to People View". Is this available in the Mac version? I have the people view (O) selected, and see no way to manage the process like with the image above. The only control I have found is behind the name plate - which shows either "pause" or "paused". Mine shows "pause" which I take to mean that it is not paused, i.e., working. I suspect the answer is going to embarrass me - I'm ready for the humiliation.

I believe I just clicked on the people view icon but it may be a one time only informational screen. But it's not really important to get that screen as you can pause, un-pause or select specific folders/collections to search without that screen.

Still can't make face detection work. To help sort through this, I've attached 3 files to give a more comprehensive picture of what I'm looking at.
I have selected my folder of 1950 photographs (because I've done very little work in this folder). I had previously tagged 28 photos out of 240. "People" (O) is turned on. I've attached a photo of what is behind the name plate. (It's been running 24/7 for several days).
In the named people panel are the faces I had previously identified, nicely grouped behind one of the identified images for the 4 people I had identified - i.e., no apparent help from Lightroom.
Next I selected the first image in the unnamed people window from the screenshot below, and typed ⌘F, with the result in the third attached file. Clearly, Face detection isn't helping. What am I doing wrong?
