Hey everyone,

I tried searching for this answer but didn't find exactly what I'm looking for.

I have all of my pics on an external hard drive. That is the only thing on the drive.

I am getting ready to install LR 2.' on both my laptop and my desktop.

If I were to attach the external drive to my laptop and label and keyword my photos, would those labels and keywords then be usable on my desktop?

I hope that's not too confusing.

Thanks!

Not unless you export the XMP by Cmd/Ctl - s. Or you put the Catalog and the drive with the Images and open the same catalog on either machine as you connect it to one or the other. You can not network the Catalog. Otherwise it just gets complicated.

Let me clarify a little...

Most of my LR work will be on my desktop. But, I thought it would be much easier (read as I'll be much more likely to complete quickly) to do all of the keywording on the laptop (in front of the TV).

So, if I understand you, by putting the catalog on the External drive, both computers will read the keywords?

ANd everything else, since it is all stored in the Catalog. Then you can do whatever to the images from either machine. As long as you are physically connecting it directly to one or the other as you work.
