Exporting/sharing LR photo settings with Photoshop CS3

I have had some recent print problems with the new LR 1.3, and have resorted to printing images in photoshop. The problems seem to be related to an LR print module issue. My question is this. What is the best way to export or share the LR image settings with photoshop so I can still take advantage of the LR develop module but print in photoshop. Do I have to write out my pics to sidecar files, or is it sufficient to open my images with the LR adjustments in photoshop (photo/edit in photoshop cs3)? Would appreciate any help/insight. Thanks.

Either should work.

If you do Cmd-S / Ctrl-S to write the settings out to XMP, then you open the file in PS, it'll open it as a raw file with your LR settings.

Alternatively you can use Edit in Photoshop which creates a PSD (or whatever you have set) and opens that, or use normal Export to create a jpeg/tiff/psd and put a link to PS in the Export Actions so that it also opens in PS.

Any of those options will work, it's just a question of whether you want an extra file in between, or whether you just want to open the raw file and then close without saving once you've printed.

Thanks ... that seems fine. Now another related question though. I'm no pro at CS3, and when I bring in a LR-processed image into PS, I go thru the nominal print steps, but when I click on "match print colors", the image "darkens" ... like the midtones take a hit. I'm confused by this behavior. If the image has all the LR develop modifications, why should the match print colors look so much less vibrant? Thanks.

Match print colours? Where are you finding that? I haven't printed much from CS3 lately. Sounds like a colour management issue to me. What colour space are you using? And what are you setting in the print dialog?

Match Print Colors is showing you a soft proof of what it thinks the file will look like printed through whatever print profile you have set. If you set up a custom profile based on your print profile under Proof Setup in the View menu and set the view to Proof Colors, then it should look the same in Match Print Colors.
