Dave, alright.
In principle:
Use LR to author the gallery. Perhaps start with one of the built-ins just to simplify, and then move on to some of Matthew's (theturinggate) excellent templates, or those of some of our other friends here.
When you're happy with the gallery, export it from the Web Module. You can put it anywhere just so that you can find it again. The name you assign will be used to create a subfolder which will contain your gallery files. For example "webtest"
The /webtest subfolder will contain a file "index.html" and some subfolders. Index.html is the main entry point to the gallery page, the subfolders contain the web plumbing, and the photo files to display. At this point, you should be able to double-click on /webtest/index.html to open your browser locally, and see the gallery.
Now, on your website, you will need to be able create a hyperlink of some kind which will refer to the gallery after it's uploaded. We can hold your hand for that, or maybe your web person can assist.
You will then need to upload (usually via FTP) the /webtest subfolder to the web host server directory where your web site lives.
At this point, your website will have an extra subfolder which is not connected to anything, but does contain your gallery. Here's where we need to get the hyperlink from 2 steps back pointing to.
Once that hyperlink is established, you should be good to go.
N.B. There's often a little problem navigating back to your main web page from the gallery, you can just hit back, back, back, back ...'til you get there, which is not very satisfactory, or there are a few workarounds, which don't require mad web skills. (This is because LR doesn't know anything about your website when you build the gallery.)
This is just the bare skeleton, and I don't expect you to be able to zoom to the finish, but just go step by step, and we'll help with the stumbling blocks, if any arise. Then we'll bookmark the thread and make it a FAQ :cheesy:
Give it a shot, and get back to us.
