Export TO catalog?

I understand LR doesn't allow access to multiple-computers. Fine.

But still, we DO work with multiple people on multiple computers.

So, when we do a wedding or other job with both of us shooting, I start by uploading the shoot into LR and then do some of the basic jobs and work my files. Then I export that set of folders as a catalog to my wife's machine for her to work her files and do her part of the overall schema.

But of course, I'd rather export INTO her main catalog, rather than set up a new catalog for that job. I cannot find a way to do this, however.

Am I missing something simple, something sort of hidden, or just dreaming again?

Thanks for whatever you enlighten me with!

2 options:

1. Export as Catalog, then Import from Catalog

2. If the files are in a folder, skip straight to Import from Catalog and point to the other catalog. It'll give you the option to only import certain folders.

Victoria,

Wow, so fast a reply!

The first option still involves two steps on two machines. I've noted that, but it seems ... inelegant?

But import-FROM-catalog can work across a network? I haven't actually tried that. It would mean still doing it from the other machine, when I've finished the work on mine ... but would be only one step.

I'll try that today.

Thanks, of course!

Hope it works Neil!

All of the catalog? Durn.

Of course, I only want to send one job's worth of folder/subfolders at a time.

Nope ... close but no see-gar.

Victoria et al,

I have tried "Import from Catalog" between machines, and as posted elsewhere on the forum, it doesn't work as it copies only the previews, even though it asks where you want the images copied it doesn't go past creating the file folder ... nothing of the real image gets moved.

So, you have previews and red folders.

That's the bit he's trying to skip Sean.

The Import from Catalog dialog does give you the option to select only certain folders to import (i.e. not the whole catalog), but it doesn't get around the issue of copying the originals. It'd work great if you were accessing the same originals - i.e. on the same computer - but it doesn't sound like it'll work for you, sorry Neil!

Thanks, Victoria.

Such an addictive yet frustrating program!
