I tried Export Keyword... One of the keywords in the resulting text file resides within square brackets. It is nested one level deep. All of the other KW's exported fine, including the nested ones.

It is not duplicated, and when I look at it in the Metadata column (flat), it appears like all of the others.

Thanks,

Sonny

If I remember it has something to do with synonyms. It probably is a synonym of whatever it is nested under.

I now recall the issue. My previous post was close but no cigar. The square bracket issue had to do with the "include on export" option not being checked in the "Edit keyword tag" dialog box.

If you only have one you can edit that keyword and check it manually. If you had a lot from an updated catalog from Lightroom 1.x, like I did, there is a script on Adobe that you can run that will check all the boxes for you for all the keywords. Here is a link:

http://www.adobe.com/go/kb4'5'74

or search for "AdjustKeywordOptions.lua" on the Adobe support page.

Square brackets [] around a keyword denote a category. This type of keyword will only export if you check the export LR hierarchy option.

Synonyms appear with curly brackets {} around them.

This notation works well when building keyword structures externally for import into LR. If you enter them directly in LR then the keyword is treated normally and the brackets are visible in the list.

Thanks Lucky and Gene for your help. I edited the KW that was enclosed within the brackets, in the exported text file, and found the following:

• the Include on Export box was not checked,
• I checked the box, re-exported, and the square brackets were gone in the text file.
