EXIF data -> Time = 00:00:00

Hi everybody

I have the problem, that EXIF DateTime for images in my Lightroom library are shown like this (example):

'4.1'.2''7 '':'':''

I use iMatch 3.6 and importet all my images to LR for some testing. I saw that the EXIF DateTime is not shonw correct.

After reading in the photools forum on that issue I was getting the update
on iMatch 3.6.'.5' and tried the "refresh XMP cache" function on some images. Updating the Meta data in LR had no effect, re-importing the images had no effect as well.

I tried the exiftool to update DateTime as well. After re-importing into LR: no effect.

Importing new photos from camera into LR and iMatch seems to work fine with 3.6.'.5'. But I have approx. 15'''' images with wrong DateTime in LR...

IMatch XMP settings are all unchecked except:
- Automatically import EXIF data into XMP
- Replace existing XMP data
- I do not use the asynchronous mode

I did the following 3 tests:

Test 1
- select all photos in a folder (ctrl + a)
- Edit EXIF DateTimes +1 minute and save
- Refresh XMP cache
- re-import photos to LR

Time is still '':'':''

Test 2
I tried the following with two images:

I changed EXIF DateTime to 2''7-1'-'4 22:59:59 and refreshed XMP cache in iMatch manually.

- there were no XMP sidecar files created
- Timestamp of the two images were updated
- File properties viewed in Windows Explorer show 2''7-1'-'4 22:59
- XMP in the XMP editor of iMatch shows:

DateTimeDigitized 2''7-1'-'4T22:59:59'':''
DateTimeOriginal 2''7-1'-'4T22:59:59'':''

- I updated metadata of the two images in LR
- TimeDate is still '4.1'.2''7 '':'':''

Test 3
I also tried this:

- changed the timezone on my computer from GMT to GMT+2
- XMP in the XMP editor of iMatch shows:

DateTimeDigitized 2''7-1'-'4T22:59:59+'2:''
DateTimeOriginal 2''7-1'-'4T22:59:59+'2:''

- I did not refresh XMP cache manually
- I updated metadata of the two images in LR
- TimeDate is now '4.1'.2''7 '2:'':''

Any advice?
 
Hm... I'll look at this when I get home.
 
Instead of reimporting into Lightroom have you tried right-clicking and selecting Metadata ->Read Metadata from File?
 
I opened a view pictures in a text editor (TextPad) and looked for the dates corresponding to the 3 dates shown in LR. I found this (I only know the german names of the fields in LR because I use this version):


Urspr. Dat./Uhrz.: <exif:DateTimeOriginal>2''7-1'-'4T22:59:59'':''</exif:DateTimeOriginal>
Datum/Uhrzeit digital: <exif:DateTimeDigitized>2''7-1'-'4T22:59:59'':''</exif:DateTimeDigitized>
Datum/Uhrzeit: <xap:ModifyDate>2''7-1'-'4T22:59:59'':''</xap:ModifyDate>

There is no "+" between time and timezone.

I edited the 3 lines (insterted a "+"):

Urspr. Dat./Uhrz.: <exif:DateTimeOriginal>2''7-1'-'4T22:59:59+'':''</exif:DateTimeOriginal>
Datum/Uhrzeit digital: <exif:DateTimeDigitized>2''7-1'-'4T22:59:59+'':''</exif:DateTimeDigitized>
Datum/Uhrzeit: <xap:ModifyDate>2''7-1'-'4T22:59:59+'':''</xap:ModifyDate>


and refreshed meta data in LR. And there it was... all dates correct.

I found that the script "Import the EXIF creation date into the IPTC create date field" does all I need in iMatch.
 
So does that mean you've fixed it?
 
Yes :)

It was a long way because it was not clear whether it was a problem of iMatch or a problem of LR (or of my settings or whatever). :shock:

In iMatch I tried Tools > XMP > XMP Refresh several times with different settings ("asynchronous XMP update mode" was always off) but the jpegs (I don't use sidecar files for jpegs) never got updated.

I tested the iMatch script "Import the EXIF creation date into the IPTC create date field" and it did what I was lokking for: writing correct DateTimes into my jpegs.

After I managed the migration of iMatch categories to LR keyword I can start to import my 18'''' images into LR... Yupie..:p
