I am preparing a slide show spanning across several decades. My goal is to have them viewed in from newest to oldest. Recent years of digital images have metadata including capture time or date. Some images are scanned from hard copy and contain no metadata. Some digital images have incorrect capture dates. What technique would you utilize in Lightroom to establish the order of these images? Once I have solved the sorting issue, I will generate a video slide show from the Slideshow module.

Hey Mrdavie, this is your alter ego. Why don't you utilize the "Label" field and enter the year of the photo and then go back through and expand the label to further sort by year?

In Library, go to metadata/capture time and then input the correct date for each image.

Sort by date will then order images by date correctly.

An alternative, if you want to splash some cash, is to use an external slideshow generator. In a moment of madness, I bought PicturesToExe - but I'm glad I did.
Basically, I export the images from Lightroom and open them in PtoE. There I can rearrange them, add annotations, music or whatever. The result is a .exe for either Windows or Mac. Because the whole thing is a "Project" I can return at any time to add stuff or change things around.
I've not explored anything like the program's potential, but having very high confidence that I can just turn up with my usb stick and it will just work I find very reassuring.

Another free alternative is OpenShot Video Editor. It is open source, and straightforward to learn and use. I like it and occasionally use it as I can merge the occasional video I shoot with my photos, and with music or other sound tracks. I can also adjust the time of a single photo if I want to dwell on it longer than the others. I've done this by creating a jpeg slide in PowerPoint where I have additional text to describe what is coming, and it requires some reading time.

I liked the app too. However, they have never developed a MacOS version .

Well, I have finished my slide show. I ended up utilizing the Label metadata field and numbered the images sequentially. It worked was a pain. 154 images takes a while to label. PLUS, the label metadata field is where color labels are added, so if I had an image tagged with a color label, that went away when I changed the field data. I will not do that again.
