I receive the above error message when opening Lightroom 2.4. My catalog is not accessable.
Please help me get Lightroom up and running.

Hi lrgress, welcome to the forum!

Have you installed any plugins anywhere along the way?

And do you have a recent catalog backup? Do you remember whether Lightroom closed cleanly last time you did use it?

Yes I do I have a recent backup. the last time that I was able to use lughtroom it did close cleanly.
I store my lightroom photos on an external hard drive. The drive used to be L now it is drive G. so I changed the location to Drive G.

Ok, next line, hold down Ctrl when you start Lightroom. It'll ask which catalog to open, and there will be a button to create a new catalog. Just try creating a new catalog - anywhere will do. If it opens that ok, we'll know it's catalog corruption, in which case we'll talk you through reverting to a backup or we'll talk nicely to Dan Tull at Adobe.

I created a new catalog and Lightroom opened just fine. How do I restore the backup to the new catalog?

Thanks for your help.

Great, ok, so we've narrowed it down to catalog corruption. Now, you want to go find that catalog and move it somewhere safe until you know you've got the backup working properly. Then find the backup and COPY it back to where the proper catalog was. Don't just move it, in case something gets messed up. Then simply double click to open and you should be all set.

Thanks Victoris for the post. I got the same error with Lightroom 7.3 when I tried to to a backup. I created a new catalog so now I can use Lightroom.

But I cannot recover my catalog. Even the backup seems to be corrupted. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Ovi, welcome to the forums.

From your new catalog, try the File > Import from Catalog... function. Choose the problem catalog, or a backup, and attempt to import it. You'll be offered an opportunity to choose how much of the catalog you'd like to import, try to do it in small pieces, to attempt to isolate the corrupt portions.

This isn't guaranteed, but is likely the best first approach. Wouldn't hurt to have backups of these files as you're working. Beyond that, if you've been using the save XMP metadata function, possibly some of your LR work is recoverable.

If that doesn't work, let us know. How big is your catalog, how much Lr work invested?
